Is Your Golf Cart Registered?
The Village's Public Safety Department reported at the regular July meeting of the Village Council that approximately 1,000 golf carts STILL need to be registered for 2018. Carts are registered on a calendar year and registrations should be completed by January 1st annually.
Public Safety Director Carl Pearson stated at the meeting that owners need to address their outstanding registrations or they will be ticketed. Renewal registrations can done online by CLICKING HERE. First-time registrations must be conducted by Public Safety Department staff at the new facility on Edward Teach Wynd. Contact Gloria Agnew (gagnew@villagebhi.org) with questions.

Draft Community Wide Standards
Friday, Aug., 10th at 2pm
Bald Head Association's Board of Directors will hold its next meeting on Friday, August 10th beginning at 2pm in the Berne Room (upstairs). The Board is seeking input from property owners on the draft Community Wide Standards at the meeting.

BHA's Nominating Committee Seeks Candidates for Board Service
Bald Head Association's Nominating Committee is looking for candidates to serve on BHA's Board of Directors beginning in January 2019. There are two vacancies on next year's board, each with the obligation of a three-year term.
Following are a few of the attributes needed for service:
- Demonstrated commitment to volunteerism by being active on a BHI community committee;
- Commitment to attend monthly board meetings;
- Commitment to work actively as board liaison to one of BHA's standing committees; and,
- Demonstrated commitment to provide ethical, transparent leadership on behalf of BHA's members.
If you are interested, send your name, contact information and a description of your previous BHI-related activities to FA McLeod (faatbeach@aol.com). Nominations must be received by August 6th.

In case you missed it...BHA has placed on its web site a recap of several issues of significance to BHI property owners. Issues include increased fines for under-aged driving, regulation of portable fire pits and preliminary flood maps.

BHA's Socialization, Education and Recreation Committee (SER), in conjunction with the Old Baldy Foundation, is looking for volunteers to assist in cataloguing documents relative to the history and development of Bald Head Island. Neither minimum time requirements nor recurring involvement is required.
This may be a perfect activity for residents interested in the history of the development of our island; for something to do on a rainy day; or for teens and young adults looking for community service hours on their resumes, etc. The only requirement is that volunteers have a smart phone on which they can download a scanning application from the iTunes or Google Play stores.

Zumba continues at BHA this summer with certified instructor Pam Donohue teaching class on Tuesdays from 9 - 10am at the Association Center. Cost is $12 for 10 classes and $15 for drop in.

Looking to join a book club? You're in luck! BHA now sponsors the Island's Book Club and it is open to anyone who wants to participate. The Book Club's monthly meeting will be held on the 2nd Monday of every month at the Association Center from 10am - 11:30am.
The next meeting will be on Monday, August 13th at 10am. Everyone is welcome to join.
NOTE: The book for August has been changed to Wives of War by Soraya Lane.

Afternoon Bridge

Something new! In response to overwhelming demand, the BHA/SER Committee will sponsor 'Afternoon Bridge' on Wednesday afternoons. It will be open for all levels of players from experienced players to novices. Come one; come all. We'll have 4 tables set up; bring your cards and anything else you need to play! Afternoon Bridge will meet Wednesdays, from 1:30-4pm at the Association Center on the following days:

Village Chapel Announces Time Changes for Later This Year
The Village Chapel has announced that beginning Sunday, December 2, 2018, there will be one service only at 10am through Easter Sunday, April 21st, 2019. After that date, the Chapel will return to only one service at 8:30am until Memorial Day.
The Chapel Board of Directors made the decision to adjust the service times based on input from attendees and a review of the attendance and offerings collected
from the last four Lenten
seasons including the 10am trial period in 2018.

National Lighthouse Day

In recognition of National Lighthouse Day (celebrated August 7th annually), the Old Baldy Foundation will be holding several events during the upcoming weekend, including:
Saturday, Aug. 4th
- Annual Duck Race, 3pm; Finish Line is the dock behind the Harbour Pavilion
- A Night Aboard Queen Anne's Revenge, 6pm; BHI Club
Sunday, Aug. 5th
- National Lighthouse Festival, 4pm; Old Baldy Grounds
- Run for the Light, 7pm; Race begins at Old Baldy
