THE
MONDAY
MEMO
March / 26 / 2018
On the First Day...
From Rev. Conley, District Superintendent

On the first day of spring, we had a snow storm and received more snow here in Frederick than we had for the entire winter combined. In some sense, the late season snow storm is a metaphor for all that has seemed out of sync for the past few months.

We collectively mourned the passing of Billy Graham, the most spiritually influential person of our time. The church on earth has lost a leader, model and champion. Through all his life he lived so intentionally that he has risen above the charges that have stained the reputations of many of his fellow leaders.

Recently in the Alliance, we have dealt with some accusations against Ravi Zacharias, one of the worlds leading apologists for Christianity and a biblical worldview. Though the accusations continue to have a life of their own on the internet. Ravi has submitted to multiple investigations by the Board of Directors of Ravi Zacharias Ministries as well as an investigation by the Alliance as Ravi is a licensed Alliance evangelist. Some corrections were made to the RZIM website and Ravi has acknowledged that in some cases he used poor judgement, yet there was no credible evidence discovered that a disciplinary event had occurred.

Late last week, Christianity Today reported that accusations of impropriety have been lodged against Bill Hybels. Some of these accusations have reportedly come from people who have been numbered among his closest friends. Bill vehemently denies each and every accusation.

These issues come in the same season as school shootings, economic turbulence, international tensions and wide spread unrest in our nation as evidenced by the movements of #MeToo and #NeverAgain among others. Why do I bring all this up?

First of all, to remind us that any one of us is vulnerable to accusation of impropriety. We must intentionally be above reproach. We must not live in fear, but we must be wise in our dealings with others. Sex, money and power seem to be the universal trinity of temptation and have destroyed preacher and politician alike.

Secondly, to remind us all that this Sunday you will have an opportunity to remind those who attend services that there is hope in the midst of all this chaos and disappointment. When Jesus declared, "It is finished" he had completed the way of redemption. The veil of the temple was torn in half from top to bottom. All that separated human beings from God had been destroyed. At the resurrection, He demonstrated the power to accomplish all that was completed at the cross. In the resurrection power of Christ every division people experience has been done away with: the division between God and man, the division between people so commonly expressed in racial, economic, and cultural conflicts, the division between the sexes that had its roots in the fall. That same power is at work in each of us!!

The resurrection power of Jesus is the only hope for all that is broken in our world. Preach it with joy! Declare it with confidence! Proclaim it in hope!

8X8 Joins The Alliance Purchasing Program

Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Alliance Purchasing Program, launched at Council 2015, provides Alliance districts, churches, and supporting organizations with special, negotiated pricing on several products and services. Some of our program partners also donate a portion of their revenues to the Great Commission Fund.  Sign in to MyCMA  for a complete list of partners.

We are pleased to announce that 8x8, a cloud-based business phone system, has become our newest partner in the program. After undergoing a thorough due-diligence process, the National Office selected 8x8 in 2017 to replace its outdated phone system. 8x8's system is easy to implement and requires no on-site servers or T1 lines; in addition, 8X8 handles all maintenance. Each phone line provides access to a conference bridge, eliminating the need to pay separately for this service. 8x8's Virtual Office app (Mac, PC, iOS, and Android) offers another updated means for users to stay connected.

"As we continue to look for ways to serve, I'm glad that we can offer this new service to the Alliance family. 8x8's services, coupled with their nonprofit pricing, distinguish them in the market." - Ken Baldes, The Alliance's Vice President for Operations/Treasurer.

AMD Communications, a telecommunications consulting agency, was instrumental in helping The Alliance choose 8x8. "This is our trusted partner, who will also help you choose the right solutions for your needs," Ken adds. For Alliance family members to receive our negotiated pricing with 8x8, they must work through AMD Communications.
AMD Communications:
  • Has a heart to serve ministries and is The Alliance's exclusive contact for all 8x8 services.
  • Has helped organizations save up to 30 percent of their telecom spending.
  • Will donate 20 percent of their revenue to the Great Commission Fund from services they sell to Alliance family members.
To learn how much you could save,  Request a Review of your current telecom services (including Internet) from AMD or call (888) 704-3183, option 1 for Sales.
