SECTION CONFERENCE IN SPOKANE - Registration Is Now Open

The 2020 Section Conference will be in Spokane,
April 29- May 1.
Registration is now open. Save yourself $150 and register before April 1st and take advantage of our early bird pricing.

If you are a vendor you will want to reserve your booth quickly because we have only 30 vendor booths left!!  Check out all the vendors sponsorship opportunities on our website, we have something for every budget!  As the vendor trade show is Thursday only this year, vendors are encouraged to take advantage of the golf tournament on Wednesday and to provide hospitality options for clients on Thursday evening.

NEW CONFERENCE AGENDA
  • No change to Wednesday activities - golf and pre-cons as usual as well as the Competition Night Welcome Reception with Tapping, Hydrant Hysteria, Meter Madness and Best Tasting Water Finals!
  • You asked for more CEUs and we are listening! We have added two more hours of technical sessions. This year you can expect 2.0 CEUs as compared to previous years of 1.7 -1.8.
  • You asked for less down time and we are listening! Similar to ACE we will have multiple things happening at the same time. Something for everyone all the time!
  • You thought the Friday night banquet was outdated. We are listening!  The Friday banquet has been replaced with a Friday Awards Luncheon where we will give out the Section's Top Five Awards!
  • The Board of Trustees Meeting will take place Friday afternoon. At this meeting we will present a few more awards, get the State of the Section Update from outgoing Chair James Dean and pass the gavel to incoming Chair Ronda Farmer.
  • The conference will wrap up Friday at 5pm with a reception for new Chair Ronda Farmer as you pick up your Bid For Water auction purchases.

Check out our conference website for all the latest information!

WATER FOR PEOPLE SILENT AUCTION EVOLVES TO BID FOR WATER

With the schedule changes to the 2020 Conference, the Water For People Committee thought it was an opportune time to make some changes to the Water For People auction to drive support and keep interest high.

This year we are going to focus on procuring higher value, experience-focused auction donations. We hope this will not only help drive interest in the auction, but also cut down on the "but I can't get it home" reason for not bidding, and also put an "eco-conciseness" spin on the auction.

This means that this year we are asking our members to donate items such as:
  • Trips - or vacation rentals via AirBnB or timeshares
  • Gift certificates - hotels, restaurants, etc.
  • Tickets - sporting events, concerts, etc.
  • Fishing trips (always popular!)
  • "Of the month" club memberships
  • Movie, concert, or play tickets
  • Memberships (zoo, aquariums, museums, etc.)
  • Tours
All of our members are active individuals who no doubt have connections/experiences that can be donated. Ideas include:
  • Do you have a connection to a winery? How about a group wine tasting experience?
  • Who is a fantastic cook or baker (or who do you know who is)? Perhaps offering a cooking lesson or delivered meal?
  • Can anyone offer lessons of some sort? I know we have some avid horseback riders, golfers, and fly fishers in the group!
Auction Beneficiaries

We have also decided the time has come to expand the beneficiaries of the auction to all philanthropic entities that PNWS-AWWA supports - Water For People, the Water Equation, and the Education and Training Fund. Money raised from this year's auction will go into the "greatest need" fund and the Philanthropic Advisory Council (PAC) will help the Board determine the best use of these funds at the end of the fiscal year.

If you have any questions or concerns about these updates, please feel free to reach out to Katie Dillon, PAC Vice Chair.
CORIANNE BURNETT TO JOIN AWWA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The AWWA Board of Directors has selected Corianne Burnett, Senior Engineer with Corollo Engineers to the Service Provider Director-At-Large position. She will begin her three year term on the AWWA Board following ACE20 in June.

Corianne currently serves as the Publications Committee Chair for our Section, coordinating the publication of our quarterly Water Matters magazine. She is a former Section Trustee and has served on the associations Young Professional Committee.

Corianne is Corollo's project manager for the Willamette Water Supply System, a one billion dollar water supply project in the Portland metro region.

Congratulations Corianne!

BECOMING A CANDIDATE FOR TRUSTEE - What's the Process?

Now that the Section election is wrapped up for another year, you might be thinking to yourself - how do you get selected to run for trustee?

It just so happens that we have a page on our website entitled: What Does It Take to Be a Leader. On this page you will find introductory materials on how to be either be a Subsection Officer, Committee Officer  or Section Trustee.  Check out the information and if you are interested in becoming a leader in any of the above mentioned areas contact the Section Office

The Section Nominating Committee is currently chatting with interested individuals about running for trustee in this fall's election. Once again, reach out to the Section Office if you are interested in speaking with anyone from the Nominating Committee and running for trustee.
