Dear Reader

In answer to questions posed by StMaartenNews.com about the new check policies being enforced by local banks, the Central Bank of Curacao and St. Maarten (CBCS) wrote the following in an email response: " Please be informed that commercial banking institutions each have distinct internal policies and procedures regarding bank clearance, and that the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS) does not disclose information concerning internal policies of institutions under supervision."

However, despite this non-answer to the question whether the Central Bank was aware of the new policies on cashing checks being enforced by the local banks on St. Maarten, the CBCS wrote an interesting comment. Namely: " In addition, we inform you that while the CBCS has not yet established specific policies and guidelines for the clearing of checks to which the institutions must adhere to, this will be the case in the near future."

So the basically the Central Bank has not set any specific check cashing policies and guidelines for the banks to adhere to, but The Bank intends to do so in the near future.

We look forward to that.

With that said, we also look forward to reading WIB's new updated General Conditions and Terms to be published Wednesday, August 1st.

In the meantime, have a great day.

Best regards,
