LCUL Hosts Fifth Roundtable: Too Little or Too Much? COVID-19 Impacts on Liquidity Management

LCUL will be hosting our fifth virtual roundtable as part of our 5-part series on July 21 at 1:00 pm to discuss liquidity issues that many credit unions are experiencing in the current COVID-19 environment.

Money, like all commodities, can be in short supply or in excess. Some credit unions are looking for sources of it and some are looking to invest excess where it can create the best return. Today, stimulus and unemployment payments are causing the shift in capital, leading to a decline in net worth and likely producing new areas of interest in your next NCUA exam.

This roundtable will feature panelists on both sides of the liquidity equation as well as facilitation and strategic guidance from league support specialists. We will be discussing:
  • Sources of Liquidity
  • Decreases in member spending and withdrawals
  • Strategies to capitalize on the shift in capital
  • Opportunities to deploy excess liquidity
  • Experiences and best practices from panelists on both sides of the issue
  • Guidance from credit union support specialists to create suitable in state partnerships of sources and needs.
There is no cost but registration is required.  Participants can submit questions in advance by emailing support@lcul.com by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16. For additional questions, contact the league's Education Department.

Panel positions are limited and those wishing to share experiences are asked to contact education@lcul.com no later than Friday, July 10.

InfoSight Update: New Louisiana State Specific Topics
Earlier this year InfoSight introduced an upgraded platform that included a refreshed look and feel with easy-to-navigate content. The revamped design included customizable dashboards, allowing credit union employees immediate access to the topics that matter most to their organization.

These upgrades now include a "Louisiana State Specific Topics" page. While the topic pages can still be found where they've always been we've compiled a list and linked them all under the new topic page.

The state specific topic can be accessed by clicking on the "Compliance Topics" header on InfoSight's home page. You can also create a shortcut to the list by clicking on the gear icon next to "Topics of Interest". From there you just check "Louisiana State Specific Topics" (and any other pages you want quick access to) then click "Save".

Please visit InfoSight on the League's website to check out these improvements. Questions? Please reach out to Danielle Thibodeaux for help via email at dthibodeaux@lcul.com

La Cap FCU Launches Membership Rewards
In order to show appreciation to credit union members, La Capitol FCU has launched a membership reward program. The program will reward members by depositing cash into their regular savings accounts at the end of a specified 12 month period. The amount of cash rewarded will be based upon the types and number of certain accounts the member has open in good standing for the entire 12 month period.

Members must have a La Cap checking account and be enrolled in online banking and e-statements in order to qualify for the membership reward. The reward for a checking account in good standing for 12 months is $20. The rewards increase for those who also have savings accounts, auto loans, credit cards, and mortgages through La Cap.

"La Cap is a member-owned credit union," said Michael Hooper, President and CEO of La Capitol FCU. "We launched this program because we want to show our members how much we appreciate them and reward them for their loyalty.
