SAFCC
Community Cat Newsletter
Our vision is to have a community where no kittens are born wild on the street, no cat capable of living in a home is lacking one, and no feral cats are wanting for food, water, and appropriate care and concern.

Petco Love Stories Campaign
If you've adopted a cat from the San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition you can give us the best chance at lifesaving funds. Your pet love story can help us earn up to $100,000 from the Petco Foundation. Through Sept. 20, adopters can participate in the Petco Foundation's Love Stories campaign and share how your cat has changed your life! With every story submission, SAFCC gets a chance at grant awards so our Community Cat Award Program can continue to save more lives. You can share your Love Story by Sept. 20 for a chance for SAFCC to earn a grant award HERE.
Attention trappers in 78212 and 78209

Spring time is trapping time and there are still approximately 100 slots left for a free spay/neuter surgery for feral cats with our Petco Foundation grant. This grant is for residents that reside in the 78212 and 78209 zip codes. Last year, the SAFCC Helpline received calls about 305 cats in 78212 and 206 cats in 78209. Those cats will be reproducing soon if not fixed! You can find more information about our active grant and clinic specials HERE. Free spay/neuter services are also available through Animal Care Services for residents in other zip codes. Find that info HERE.
2020 was one for the books
We have successfully buried 2020 in the litter box - where it belongs! But here are a few “nuggets” from 2020, as we prepare to “pounce” on 2021!

One silver lining that came from the COVID clinic closures was that SAFCC was able to establish partnerships with other clinics, and we were able to subsidize and pay for the spay/neuter of more cats last year than we have ever done before - 5,755 cats!

Our Cat Crisis Fund was able to help people who had been furloughed and lost their jobs, who were heart-broken they could not afford
vet care for their community cats. We were able to help 308 cats at a cost of $36,576!

Our Helpline volunteers worked overtime by responding to 5,824 calls! This number was an increase of 500 more calls than the previous year.

A bright spot was that people confined to their homes realized it was a "purrfect" time to add a new family member! Our Community Cat Adoption Program found homes for 1,302 cats that were rescued off our streets!

None of us want to repeat last year, but we do hope to continue our spay/neuter momentum and rescue efforts to reduce the suffering of outside cats and kittens. We appreciate your support in helping us achieve these goals. Thank you!
Help us get a matching donation for our Have a Heart fundraising campaign!
Today is the last day to donate to our Giving Grid and we are just $255 from meeting our Matching Donation Gift! If just 12 people each donate $20 or more, we will get to $2,500 in donations which will get us to match an anonymous donor's $2,500 match challenge! Please give today and help us reach our $5,000 goal and help SAFCC save 250 cats' lives by providing life-saving vaccinations! Donate here: givinggrid.com/wyvnjz/
Adoption success story
Morris and his brother Marley were reported to our help line by a kind person who found them abandoned, half-starved, and covered with ants. They were very fragile, only about a month old. Both had lost most of their pretty ginger coats and were nearly bald. Morris also had a seriously infected eye, which had to be removed once he was old enough to survive surgery. Marley was quickly adopted after they went to our adoption center at the Windcrest Petsmart. But one-eyed Morris was passed over for quite awhile. Finally, a young woman named Abrienne, who had adopted another cat named Catniss from SAFCC a few weeks earlier, fell in love with the “pirate kitten.” Abrienne decided to adopt Morris (now named Bebop) and he is thriving with his forever mom and new sister Catniss.
Thanks from our supporters
We love to hear how our volunteers have helped neighborhoods control their community cat population. Elle wrote recently to offer a thanks and a donation to SAFCC for the help she and her neighbors received. Elle's neighborhood was overrun with over 30 cats but many residents were unable to trap in a concerted way to immediately fix all the cats. With the help of one of the neighbors, Kate, SAFCC Trapper Team Member DJ got the TNR ball rolling. Great outcomes of this trapping project are that DJ helped Kate to learn how to trap and collected over $400 dollars in donations for SAFCC from various people in neighborhood. Great job, everyone!
Cat of the Month - Cibolo
This sweet 5-year old male silver tabby is Cibolo. Cibolo was found roaming the neighborhood in search of food. He was very thin and severely congested so a SAFCC foster took Cibolo in. Cibolo later received surgery to remove a polyp in his nasal cavity and was diagnosed with Lymphoplasmacytic which is controlled with a daily steroid shot. Cibolo is in search of someone who can provide him with his medication and a loving home. He is a good boy and is super friendly, and loves all the attention. Cibolo is a good eater and loves to talk. If you are interested in adopting Cibolo, please call his foster mom Lorraine at 210-471-8462 or email at crazykattlady67@gmail.com
