64 SECONDS to Learn Up To  25 THINGS about St. Louis Park High School
October 25, 2018

1:   From the Principal

"Enhancing the Spirit" and "Life-long Learning" are critical components of our district's strategic plan. As I attended family conferences last night, it was great to see teachers and families connecting to focus on our students as they progress towards their future.  I heard many stories about students participating in class activities, field trips, and after school clubs that have made them think about their future careers.

Our career and post-secondary partners joined us this morning for an update and goal setting session for our Career and College Readiness Advisory Committee.  The shared knowledge, student experiences, and enthusiasm for the upcoming year was pretty incredible.  I appreciate this organization as it a key component for our school to keep our curriculum rigorous, relevant, and real.

Last but not least it is vital that our students get off to a good start at St. Louis Park High School.  One way we do this is our participation in the BARR (Building Assets Reducing Risks) Program.  This partnership allows us to partner with schools locally and nationally to deliver curriculum that depends on strong student-to-teacher relationships.  Thank you to our visitors that help model and share strategies that help contribute to our wonderful graduation rate in St. Louis Park by getting students started in supportive learning communities.

3:  Fall Conferences October 25 & 30
St. Louis Spark High School will be holding parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, October 25 and Tuesday, October 30 from 4-7:30 p.m. Conferences will be held in the High School Field House. (Entrance is located on the south side of the building adjacent to the railroad tracks.) It is helpful if you bring a copy of your student's schedule (or a list of teachers) with you to conferences (available in PowerSchool). You will be able to get a copy of this schedule at a welcome table in the field house on conference night if needed. Hope to see you there.
4:  Building a Neighborhood I-Time

We will be accepting donations in form of cash, check, food, gift cards, personal care items, feminine products, and winter accessories for our food shelf and clothing closet. We also need bread and pasta! Please stop by and check us out.

6:  Girls Tennis Hosts Charity Tournament
The girls' tennis team hosted a charity doubles tournament on October 5th at the high school. The girls partnered with teachers, parents, friends, and family to play in a single elimination tournament and organize a raffle with donated prizes. The girls raised $545.00 which was donated to the high school's Equity Fund. This fund is used to help students in the high school and their families. Some of the things the funds are used for are grocery gift cards, gas cards, dance tickets, registration fees, yearbooks, field trip fees, etc. This is the team's 3rd year hosting and organizing the event. Thanks to the girls' parents for all of their help and donations!
7:  "Funky Sock" Fundraiser
Hello! As a school, we believe that IB will be the best preparation for life outside of school as it prepares critical thinkers who strive for intercultural understanding. Our district is incredibly generous in covering the majority of the costs for IB exams, but some families that do not qualify for free/reduced lunch find their portion of the registration fee to be a burden on their family. We would like to have a fund for assisting families with extenuating circumstances with their IB exam registration fees. Please help us build this fund by buying some socks! These socks are so cute they will make great holiday presents!

You can also buy socks in person next week on the second night of conferences! Please bring cash or check.

Thank you so much for your support!
