Shoes of Hope Provides Shoes for Children in Need SHOESOFHOPE

Shoes of Hope is an annual shoe and school supply distribution for children in need who are entering grades K-5!  Shoes of Hope 2018 will take place at Community of Hope in Loxahatchee, Florida. During this time, volunteers will be providing a message of hope and supplying each child with a new pair of shoes, school supplies, and a haircut.

Department of Health Palm Beach Readies for Back to School Immunizations IMMUNIZATIONS

Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County is consolidating its back to school immunization clinics and outreaches to better serve those needing school shots from July 30 to August 17. "We want every student in need of immunizations for school to be able to get those shots in plenty of time before school starts," said Dr. Alina Alonso, Director Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County. "We've consolidated our staff and will be offering appointments and accommodating walk-ins at three locations." The three locations will be West Palm Beach Health Center, 1150 45th Street, Lantana Health Center, 1250 Southwinds Drive and C.L. Brumback Health Center 38754 SR 80, Belle Glade.

Alert: Telephone Scam Targeting Migrants

Article: "A new type of telephone scam targeting migrants, requesting an electronic transfer of money to resolve some aspect of their family's immigration cases in the United States, is now on the radar of the Department of Homeland Security's Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor (JTF-W STC) and consular officials from several neighboring countries. 
People are receiving unsolicited calls from scammers posing as an authority figures from several DHS entities like Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) agents, as well as consular officers and shelter administrators, where they request money to be sent electronically to help their family obtain some service or consideration, or to purchase travel tickets ..."

Corps Announces Public Meetings for Lake Okeechobee Watershed Study

From the Army Corps of Engineers: "The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District announces a series of public meetings for the Draft Integrated Project Implementation Report (PIR) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Lake Okeechobee Watershed Restoration Project (LOWRP). The Corps proposes an above-ground wetland attenuation feature (WAF) and several aquifer storage & recovery (ASR) wells in an area north of the lake. The proposed plan also calls for restoration of 5,300 acres of wetlands in the area. The draft document was released for review on July 6, 2018 ..."

There are only two weeks left to apply for "Quantum in the Community" funding.  The deadline date to submit applications is Friday, July 27 There will be no extensions given past the deadline date since the application has been available since June 4, 2018. $750K is available to nonprofits in Palm Beach County who work to meet people's basic needs such as

Summer BreakSpot provides nutritious meals at no cost to children while school is out for the summer. There is no application necessary and any child age 18 or younger can come during meal times to receive a free meal.
