High school students and mentors = a winning combination
It's not easy to capture the attention of a large group of high school students but WPH did just that during our Meet Your Manufacturing Mentor event held on Tuesday, October 23/18.

Close to fifty Grade 11 students from local high schools attended the event, listening to a keynote address called Manufacturing: A Career on the Edge by Jeremy Bout, President of Edge Factor.

Jeremy shared information on his career journey and through a series of compelling videos demonstrated the fun, practical and life changing
applications that manufacturing has in our world.

Judy Travis, Executive Director, WPH, shared information about Manufacturing in Hamilton (see adjoining article).

During a lunch break the students had time to view displays by McMaster University, Faculty of Engineering; OYAP; and Mohawk College.

Next up was the fun (and sometimes loud) speed mentoring session where students were able to ask candid questions of a diverse group of people employed by manufacturing companies.

The students heard about the day to day reality of careers such as: Process engineer, Production supervisor, HR generalist, Marketing co-ordinator, CNC machinist, Mechanical designer, Human resources manager, Industrial engineer, Machinist and Cost analyst.

Thanks to our partners: City of Hamilton, Economic Development Department, HWCDSB, HWDSB and our mentors and their companies: Carmeuse, Felton Brushes, ACS Valves, Canada Bread, John Crane, and Walters Group for sharing their time and expertise.
