Jesuit Excellence Tour
Saint Basil Academy welcomed 15 Jesuit colleges and universities from all over the country on October 11. All students were encouraged to meet up with the representatives during their lunch period. The colleges and universities were set up as a mini college fair in the AP room. We always look forward to hosting this annual visit with the Jesuit schools.

Leadership Conference
On Friday October 12, eleven seniors in the Women's Leadership Seminar class attended the Pennsylvania Conference for Women. After hearing keynote speaker Amal Clooney discuss her work as a human rights advocate, specifically her advocacy for Yazidi women seeking justice from ISIS, we were invited to listen to a panel discussion about unconscious bias. Afterwards, students were given the opportunity to visit speakers and vendors from around the state. Lastly, we attended an interview with Serena Williams, where we learned about her mission to reduce the maternal mortality rate in the United States. Students enjoyed the exposure to so many women in positions of leadership, and were excited to represent Saint Basil Academy at such an incredible event.
GEARS Day (Girls in Engineering and Related Sciences)
Five SBA students actively participated in the University of Pennsylvania's GEARS Day held on Saturday, October 13, 2018. GEARS Day (Girls in Engineering and Related Sciences) is a program facilitated by the the University of Pennsylvania's Society of Women Engineers in conjunction with the Philadelphia Society of Women Engineers (SWE). The program is a one day event for high school girls in the Philadelphia area where they participate in a series of hands-on workshops designed to generate interest in several engineering and scientific areas. The ultimate goal is to interest the high school girls in pursuing a major in engineering in college. Aside from the workshops, students also meet up with a PENN student panel and engage with current students, faculty and Philadelphia SWE volunteers.
SBA would like to congratulate Ann Abraham, Isabella Marrone, Kayla Guevara, Francelie Arguelles and Stephanie Kim for applying to and participating in the 2018 GEARS day!

AMP Students Work on Linear Motion Lab
AMP students have started their study of physics, and in these photos are collecting data for a position versus time graph of linear motion. This graphing exercise correlates to the study of linear functions in algebra 1. They will be integrating this new understanding of linear motion into a more generalized study of linear functions.
