HOMETOWN HOCKEY
"The Lynah Faithful" by Ben Wallace
“SIEVE! SIEVE! SIEVE! SIEVE!”

“IT’S ALL YOUR FAULT! IT’S ALL YOUR FAULT! IT’S ALL YOUR FAULT!”

As soon as I heard these chants being screamed in unison by the student section at a Cornell University Men’s Ice Hockey game at Lynah Rink in Ithaca, NY, I quickly made up my mind that this was where I wanted to play. This is what I wanted to be a part of.

If you haven’t been to a Cornell hockey game, the Cornell student section (like many college hockey student sections) has numerous, always creative cheers to get under the skin of the opposing players and coaches.
The “sieve” chants were being directed at the Colgate University goalie after he had just been scored on by Cornell. The “Lynah Faithful” as they are known also had songs for some of the star players, including a rendition of the song “Hey, baby” by Bruce Channel. It went, “Hey, hey, Bobby! I want to know, will you kill someone?” I had no idea who this Bobby was, but I was glad he was on my team! From what I’ve seen firsthand and heard from others, Lynah Rink is one of the most intimidating college hockey arenas for opposing players to visit and I was fortunate to be able to call Lynah Rink my home ice for four years.
KROSSOVER HOCKEY PARTNERSHIP
By DJ LaVarre, WHC Hockey Director

Hockey season is in full swing at The Winnetka Hockey Club and we’ve got exciting news to share. We will be partnering with Krossover Hockey throughout the season to provide our coaches and players with professional video analysis of games. You might notice that your player’s games are being videotaped more often than they have in past seasons. Krossover’s professionals will be uploading and breaking down the game. They will create video clips, provide analytics and communicate specific skills and areas for team development with the coaches.

ONE-TIMERS
Scott Sandelin on Values, Culture and Character

By Minnesota Hockey - Two-time NCAA National Championship coach and Hibbing native Scott Sandelin knows that to build a winning program, you need a winning culture. That culture has to be built on strong core values and high character people. The University of Minnesota Duluth head coach shared his views on values, what he looks for in recruits, and how parents, coaches and teammates can all play a role in building a good culture.
Early Season Points of Emphasis
By Minnesota Hockey - The first few weeks of the season are always an exciting time of the year. Every team has a blank slate and players of all ages are energized about the opportunities ahead. It’s also one of the most critical times of year as the tone established early on often sets the stage for the entire season. Setting the right course for the team and each player individually can help raise everyone on the team to new heights. With so many things to work on and accomplish, the first challenge is often where to start.
