This Week at
Christ Episcopal Church Kensington

This Sunday we focus on the sixth of the seven practices for a Jesus-centered life: "Go." Jesus sends us us beyond our circles and comfort zones, to witness to the love, justice and truth of God with our lips and with our lives. We are called to go - cross boundaries, listen deeply and live like Jesus - so that we might join God in healing a hurting world. We go to become Beloved Community, a people reconciled in love with God and one another.

After the 10am service, come downstairs to hear Christ Church member Marco Beltran, DrPH speak about his life and vocation as a public servant, currently with the National Office of Head Start.

Sunday School

At 10am:
  • Chapel in the Undercroft (ages 3 through Gr. 5) Both the upcoming All Hallows' Eve (the eve of All Saints Day on November 1st) on October 31 and next Sunday's Baptisms are great reasons to learn about the sacrament of Baptism and to honor our own holiness. This will lay a foundation for learning about saints, holy people of God, in November. We will learn a simple song, "Holy Child of God."
Following the 10am service:
  • Godly Play (PreK and K): Ann Enkiri will present the Parable of the Good Samaritan. They children will enjoy acting out this story.
  • Living the Good News(Gr. 1-3): Dwight Allen will teach through Bible-toons and song.
  • Living the Good News (Gr. 4-5): John Ward will explore Jesus' challenging parable and direction to "Go and do likewise!"

Youth Group

Middle and high school youth will join Madi in the loft for youth group today. This week's superhero - Batman! What can we learn about justice and the pursuit of a better world from the Caped Crusader? Come find out after the 10 am service!

It's youth bowling time ! All middle and high school youth are invited to an afternoon of bowling at Lucky Strike on Saturday, November 3rd from 2-4pm. Please RSVP to Madi ([email protected]) by Monday, October 30th if you're interested.

Bible Study this Sunday at 4pm in the Library

Please join us on Sundays as we begin reading Matthew, Mark and Luke in parallel. It should be enlightening and fun to see the differences. Why does Matthew's genealogy of Jesus stop at Abraham but Luke's genealogy continues back to Adam? Come to Bible study and find out the answer and more... All are welcome! No prior preparation is necessary and feel free to drop in any week. Questions? Please contact Lee Puricelli ([email protected]).

Thanksgiving Dinner for Arcola Elementary Families!

Beginning Sunday, Oct 28, we will begin collecting donations of food so that 55 families at Arcola will have the fixings for Thanksgiving and be able to share the blessings of this bountiful season. How to help? A list of items is available on the Outreach Table.

Select a family 'critter' from the display, and donate the items on the list for that family. Bring the food to church, and put it in the last classroom on the upstairs hallway near the Choir Room. All donations must be at CC by Sunday, Nov 18th in order to have them ready for pickup on the 19th.  A $25 Safeway or Giant gift card will be given to each family so they may purchase the meat/specialty foods of their choice. Thank you for caring and sharing - Virginia Sheard, Outreach Com. 301-949-3372 or [email protected]

Prime Timers will meet this Thursday, November 1st at 11:30AM

Bill Offutt will present, "The Home Front During World War II,"  an overview of life in the D. C. area during World War II, with an emphasis on rationing, volunteering, air raid and blackout drills, shortages, victory gardens, and everyday life. Please RSVP to Nora Buckley at [email protected] or call 301-564-0689 to let her know you are attending and if you wish to order a lunch ($10).  Deadline for lunch orders is Monday October 29.  All are welcome!

Next All Parish Dinner on Novermber 7, 6:30pm - 7:30pm

Mark your calendars now and plan on joining us for dinner in the Parish Hall. We hope the new time will allow more people to attend and will provide for all who worship at the 6:30 pm Holy Eucharist to come for supper afterwards-without feeling rushed. So, please gather up your fellow parishioners, friends and family and gather together for fellowship, food, and faith-filled fun. Children are invited to bring their favorite card game or board game to play while the grown-ups visit with one another.
