Hopkins Foundation Project Award Applications:
During the fall of 2018, USD 253 staff members are invited to submit an application to the Hopkins Foundation to request funding for a NEW special classroom, area, organization, or group project that will benefit students. The deadline to apply is December 20, 2018. Applications will be available at each school beginning November 1.
School Bus Safety Week and Bus Driver Appreciation Day:
During one school year our buses travel over 381,000 miles! A huge thank you to our transportation team for all they do getting our students to and from school and activities safely each day.
The 2018 Climate Survey is almost complete. If you have not already done so, you have until the end of the day on Friday to complete the survey. This is a great opportunity for all USD 253 stakeholders to share their views on Emporia Public Schools. Patron Insight, a third-party confidential firm will be conducting the survey.

Board Information and Updates:
Communities in Schools - Vicki Schweinler, Executive Director of Elementary Education; Jessica Griffin, Logan Avenue Principal; Jami Dakin, Walnut Principal; Victoria Partridge, CIS Communications Manager and Area Director for Central Kansas; Leah Hoggatt, Walnut Site Coordinator; Camille Abdel-Jawad and Jennifer Martin, Logan Site Coordinator discussed the Communities in Schools program. The program is currently in both Logan Avenue and Walnut Elementary schools. Communities In Schools provides support and removes barriers for students and families who are at-risk and facing additional hardships. The program is unique in that there are no qualifiers to participate. Any student who experiences obstacles that interfere with learning can receive assistance.
TPA Advisory Council Update:
The TPA Advisory Council meeting was held on Tuesday, October 23. Agenda items included: What does the role of the TPA advisory council look like if/when Logan Avenue and/or William Allen White are approved as redesign schools and TPA 6th-8th grade programming for
2019-20.
KSDE Annual Convention:
Kevin Case, Superintendent of Schools reported that several USD 253 members were able to attend the KSDE Annual Convention in Wichita. Several initiatives and programs occurring in our schools are also happening across the state in other districts. Case reported it was nice to see Emporia Public Schools paving the way for other districts.
