This Sunday, Melanie Chambers will be directing the Chancel Choir as we celebrate Reformation Sunday.  Following the service, please make sure to greet Melanie during Coffee Hour in the Chittick Lounge.  We will be serving cake and coffee to welcome her.
Noisy Offering

This Sunday we will be collecting our monthly Noisy Offering during our worship service.  So far this year we have collected $753.32 in coins.  It would be a great goal for us to reach $1000 by the end of the year.  With three more Noisy Offerings left this year, we can accomplish this.  Please bring your loose change this Sunday and let us make a joyful noise.  Our Noisy Offering supports ministries to relieve hunger locally, regionally, and globally.

Challenged and Sustained by Faith Stewardship Testimonies

As part of our Stewardship Campaign this year, we will hear different personal testimonials that reflect how we are Challenged and Sustained by Faith.

Challenged and Sustained by Faith
from Susan Robbins

Since joining the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church in 2005, I have faced a few medical challenges. These include Cancer, two Open Heart Surgeries with complications after the surgeries, a broken arm, and a broken shoulder. I got by with a lot of help from my Circle, Dee D'Amore, and my friends - all of which I believe received a calling from God to help. Believe me, I needed help to get back on my feet after each event. God not only provided me with the help that was needed and my faith sustained me into keeping a positive attitude no matter what challenge I was facing. I am now in a good place - feeling really healthy and exceedingly grateful that I have finally reached this place where I can enjoy each and every day.

Challenged and Sustained by Faith
from Randall (Randy) Crate

Our daughter Rebecca has been involved with the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church all her life: she was baptized at this church, she attended Sunday school, and was very active in the Youth Program and Bell Choir. From the beginning she has always felt welcomed into this church, at ease and very comfortable. Before we would have the official church greeting, Rebecca would always be asked how she was doing, what she was doing, and did she have anything coming up in the future. It is nice when you get introduced in church as Rebecca's dad. At age fourteen, while she was a girl scout, she applied for a career badge - she thought about it and considered ministry. She spoke to Pastor Carl and on one Saturday afternoon, he took her to Princeton Theological Seminary and this helped her to always have this in her mind. Someone else I give credit for Rebecca's interest in ministry would be Robin Lostetter and the talks they had covering so many subjects so many times. Both Carl and Robin opened her mind to ministry. Through this church, Rebecca joined Burning Bush at the Richmond Seminary, visited Montreat Retreat Center for classes, and went to the Presbyterian Youth Triennium at Purdue University. Rebecca truly received a lot from this church and we thank you.

(Rebecca earned her Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and her Master of Theology in Ministry from the University of Edinburgh's New College and was ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament at this church on May 22, 2016. Since then she has been serving as the Lead Pastor of Springfield Presbyterian Church in Sykesville, Maryland.)

IHN Returns in Just A Week

It was just a couple of weeks ago that we hosted IHN.  We will once again be hosting IHN starting on November 4th.  The hosting schedule had to be moved around due to conflicts with Christmas events at various worship centers.  Our Christmas Toy Distribution conflicted with our original scheduled week, so we are much sooner this time than expected.

Please see the sign up board in the Narthex.  Volunteering at any capacity can be very rewarding.  As anyone who previously volunteered with IHN can tell you, the families that are our guests for the week are usually some of the most thankful and grateful people you will come across in your week.   From preparing dinners, to evening and overnight hosts, there is a volunteer position for everyone.

Why not get your kids involved and aware?  Families can sign up for a meal one night as a way of teaching the valuable life lesson of serving others.  Having your kids plan, help shop and prepare a meal for our guests is a great way for the entire family to extend kindness and empathy.

Please call Dorothy Tolley 732-892-9306 if you have any questions.
Gift Auction to Benefit IHN

IHN is having their 2018 Gift Auction at Eagle Ridge on Friday Nov 2 starting at 5:00 p.m. Dee D'Amore and several others from the church will be attending. There is room for a few more at their table. Tickets are $40 each which includes a sit down dinner and 5 gift basket tickets, silent auction and door prizes.  There will be a cash bar. Please speak with Dee D'Amore if you are interested in attending (732-552-9861).

Service of Remembrance - Sunday November 4th  Service of Remembrance

An important element in the observance of All Saints is the offering prayers of thanksgiving in loving memory of members and friends of our church who have departed this life in the past year. Please call the church office or send us an email with the names of people to be remembered during the Great Thanksgiving.

Shoebox Ministry of Samaritan's Purse

Completed shoeboxes can be placed in the North Hall. For those still preparing their boxes, red pamphlets with instructions and labels on packing a shoebox can be found in the pews and in the office.

operation christmas child Please include $9 for each shoebox to help with shipping costs.  Checks can be made payable to Samaritan's Purse with a note on the memo line that the donation is for Operation Christmas Child.  Place the sealed envelope (found in the Operation Christmas Child pamphlet) on top of the items inside your shoebox so it is clearly visible.

Shoeboxes will be dedicated on November 11th during our Sunday Service.  Please have your box in before then.  Boxes will then be brought to the distribution center so please don't delay in getting your box here by November 11th.

This Week at Point Beach Prep

This week we learned letter F.   Our Nursery class met the puppet Firefighter Frank. Their sign language word was fish. They read Let's Get Froggy,The Foot Book, The Fly Flew In, and Faster Faster. Some of their activities were finger painting, making fish, painting flowers, and decorating their Halloween bags.

Our Pre-k class met letter doll Mr. F with his pet frog and funny hair. They had fun dancing to the freeze dance and pretending to go fishing. They played with farm animals and sang Old MacDonald Had a Farm. They played Follow the Leader. They talked about feelings. Their sight word and sign language word was fish. Their projects included making frogs, fire trucks, friends craft, and finger painting. They read Rainbow Fish, Feather For Lunch, Five Little Ducks, Freight Train and Flower Garden. During Music and Movement they sang the Firetruck Song, Five Little Speckled Frogs, the Little Frog Dance, and the Color Farm.

This week was fabulous!
Daylight Savings Time Ends Next Week
Set Clocks Back
Next Sunday (November 4th) is going to be a good day for sleeping in an extra hour before heading to church and then staying for the Communion Brunch!

The biannual changing of the clocks is coming upon us next week. We will gain an extra hour when daylight saving ends Nov. 4, and time falls back one hour.

The change should take place automatically for most with smartphones, laptops and tablets. (Make sure you have the "set automatically" feature enabled in your date and time settings.)   But for those using analog watches and non-digital alarm clocks, the switch will take place at 2 a.m. Sunday.

LAST Sunday To Get Your Cleanup Supplies In!

Kyle and Frank Jones are collecting items that will be sent down to Hurricane Florence survivors in affected areas in the Carolinas.

Throughout the month of October, look for Kyle and Frank after church on Sundays.  Frank's black pickup will be by the CE Annex driveway.  They will collect your items and load them into their black pickup truck or just put them in the bed of the truck.  You can pull up your car by the driveway so there is no need for carrying items into church. Picture of the Week

This photo was taken at Summer Bible School around 1920.
It was part of a thank you written many years ago to the Church by the late John and Betty Van Horn.  As we celebrate the tradition that grounds our faith this Reformation Sunday, we are grateful to those who have gone on before us and on whose shoulders we stand.
