Join The Children's Trust at Miami Book Fair *
Sure, the internet, mobile devices and other technology make reading easier and more accessible than ever. But who are we kidding, there is nothing like snuggling up to your favorite author and holding an actual book in your hand: the grainy feeling of the pages, the whispers of noise they make when you anxiously turn them eager to get to the next word. Yup, reading an actual book is the real deal. And there is no better place to satiate your desire for real books and authors than the
Miami Book Fair 2019.
The Book Fair is already underway, but you're going to want to encourage parents to go when The Children's Trust is making its yearly appearance, Nov. 22-24, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Did we mention the Street Fair is
FREE on this Friday, Nov. 22. And that is just the beginning as The Trust will be giving away all manner of goodies -- including make-your-own comic books, lanyards and piggy banks -- at its booth and a table inside the Wembly's Author's tent. We will also have Trust reps roving around signing up people of the new and improved Book Club as well as talking up our Parent Club and giving other valuable information. Don't forget to take a picture at our Photo Booth.
It's a great event for you and those you serve. Parking is free in the MDC Parking Garage. For more information, visit
www.miamibookfair.com.

Apply for FIU Community Research Grants
FIU's Research Center in Minority Institutions (RCMI) is pleased to announce the availability of seed funding for community partners and FIU faculty investigators to establish community-university collaborations. This seed funding is designed to establish long-term relationships with community-based organizations in order to address their health-related concerns and to promote participation in research. Through this funding, the FIU-RCMI hopes to establish community-university collaborations that benefit South Florida communities and enhance direct community-involvement among FIU faculty conducting health disparities research. FIU-RCMI will provide five awards annually, up to $5,000 per award.
To be successful, these community-university collaborations require resources; for example, time and funds for professional development, conference travel, supplies, meeting support, and other research-related expenses. This funding opportunity supports partnership-building activities, exploring shared research interests, and/or developing infrastructure and governance (improving data collection processes, system interfaces, etc.). Projects must focus on activities that enhance the community partner’s capacity to conduct health disparities research in South Florida and can include (but are not limited to): Needs assessments, secondary analysis of de-identified data (non-human subjects research), planning, evaluation or dissemination of community-level programs, service or system improvement planning, and training of community partners to enhance research capacity.
Application will be accepted until 5 p.m. on December 9th.
The FIU-RCMI Community Research Enhancement Grant Program Application is now open,
register here. For more information email
