Success Stories

AC enrolled in Beam in July 2017, while participating in a free, 10-week tech and computer training offered through a local non-profit. Early on in working together, it was established that AC needed to get old student loans out of default, and pay back an outstanding balance at a previous university. Without doing so, AC would not be able to receive Federal Financial Aid, or have transcripts forwarded to the local community college - a requirement for admittance. AC wanted to earn an Associates in Computer Information Systems, but the primary goal needed to be employment. After working on resumes, cover letters, and mock interviewing together, AC was offered a competitive paid apprenticeship working in the eCenter of the non-profit that offered free, 10-week training. Through using WIOA funds, we were also able to help AC access online course modules to prepare for the A+ Certification - a recognized credential in the tech field. Fast forward to May 2018, and AC applied for a permanent coordinating position in the same non-profit's eCenter. As the job required an A+ Certification, WIOA funds were once again used to help pay for the costs of the certification exam. All of the hard work and blending of resources paid off, as AC is the new eCenter Coordinator of the non-profit, helping to design the next 10-week training, and preparing for the return to school to earn an official degree in her field.

Congratulations AC!
