Homecoming week was filled with excitement. The weather didn't cooperate for tailgating, but the traditional "Burning of the B" went on. The pep rally on Friday was full of spirit and the Tigers went on to win against Killeen 38-20! Congratulations to this year's Homecoming Queen Nadia Cabiness and King Devin Martinez!

This month we celebrated seven seniors recognized through the National Merit Program and the National Hispanic Recognition program.

Belton High School seniors Marcus Ake, Jacob Jimenez, Bradin McDonald and Peter Morris, along with Belton New Tech High School @ Waskow senior Sarah Batson were named National Merit Commended Scholars for 2019. Ranked in the top 5 percent in the nation for their scores on the PSAT, these students have all participated in Belton ISD's Superintendent Scholars program.

In addition, Superintendent Scholars and Belton High School seniors Jacob Jimenez and Mariah Montgomery along with Belton New Tech High School @ Waskow senior Maia Borchardt have earned the distinction as a Hispanic Scholar. The College Board's National Hispanic Recognition program identifies academically outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students who score in the top 5,000 from over 250,000 Hispanic/Latino juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT.

As a district priority, we have focused on advancing the achievement of our top academic students in order to ensure that they are challenged and leave us with the credentials and skills to be accepted and successful in the programs of their choosing. I have had the opportunity to get to know all seven of the students who qualified for special recognition and have observed first hand their commitment to reaching high levels of success. Each of these students is impressive in a number of ways, but their commitment to high levels of achievement on the PSAT was  extraordinary. Each student participated in  tutorials focused on improving their results with some students taking more than 10 practice tests. They are worthy of special recognition for this tremendous accomplishment.

In addition to focusing on our educational priorities, we are continuing to prepare for the future. Our Attendance Boundaries Committee has been working diligently to develop proposed attendance boundaries for elementary, middle, and high schools. These new boundaries will go into effect for elementary next fall and for middle and high schools in the fall of 2020. This week the committee narrowed five sets of maps (A, B, C, D, E) under consideration to two map set choices (A, E). Each set of maps includes a proposed elementary, middle, and high school map. These maps can be found online at www.bisd.net/2025. A final committee meeting will be held on November 5 and public forums are planned for December 4, 10,  and 13. The Board is expected to take action on new boundaries at the January 14 Regular meeting.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Susan Kincannon, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Belton ISD is proud of these National Merit Commended and National Merit Hispanic Scholars!
We are grateful for the important role our principals play in creating moments that matter for our students and staff. We have a talented group of leaders taking care of our children.
This year's "Think Pink Go Red" campaign raised $11,483 to benefit the Baylor Scott & White Cancer Institute. The check was presented during the Pink & White game on October 19. What started in October 2011 has resulted in more than $84,000 being donated to the Cancer Institute.

Along with contributions from Belton ISD employees, Belton ISD raised more than $16,500 for the United Way of Central Texas this year. Spirit chains were displayed across the field on September 28. Students helped present the check at the United Way of Central Texas Leadership Breakfast on October 3. We are proud of the Big Red Community for their generous donations to these organizations!
Message from the School Board President:

The rain has not dampened the festive fall spirit across the Big Red Community. Whether it's Tiger fans cheering at a Friday night football game or families spending time at a campus fall festival, there are so many great examples of our community coming together for our kids.

I was honored to join my fellow Board members, Temple Chamber of Commerce Red Carpet Ambassadors, and Lakewood students and staff to cut the ribbon on the new gymnasium and music classrooms addition for Lakewood Elementary. The ribbon cutting took place as the campus PTA kicked off its annual Fall Friendzee, an incredible example of how a PTA, community volunteers and staff come together to create special moments for our students and their families.

The Belton Educational Enrichment Foundation (BEEF) rolled out the red carpet for education this month at their seventh annual Red Carpet Event. The evening of fun, fellowship and exciting silent and live auction raised approximately $85,000 for student scholarships, innovative teaching grants and paraprofessional grants.

The impact a single BEEF scholarship or grant award extends well beyond the initial check recipient. As one distinguished Belton High School Alumni and BEEF Donor, Bill Ward, shared from his own experience, "Establishing the Mac Birtchett and  Ward  Family Scholarships has given me the opportunity to pay it forward. It's my hope that my gift to the Belton Educational Enrichment Foundation will allow others to one day do the same, impacting opportunities and experiences for future generations."

We celebrated the completion of the addition of music classrooms, restrooms, and gymnasium at Lakewood Elementary last Friday. This was a great project funded through the 2017 bond program.
This year's Belton Educational Enrichment Foundation (BEEF) Red Carpet event was a success with Quinton Locklin, BHS Class of 1995, serving as emcee. Quinton wowed the crowd with his beautiful voice by singing several songs! Auctioneer Trey Galloway and his son, Thomas, led the live auction and the BHS Madrigal and members of the orchestra provided musical entertainment. Magic Belles graciously helped with food and beverage service. Approximately $85,000 was raised for student scholarships and teacher grants. Thank you to the BEEF Board and volunteers who worked hard putting this event together. This video below was shown during the event and captures what BEEF is all about! We thank Mr. Bill Ward, BHS Class of 1961, and all participants for sharing their stories.

Fall is here and our campuses are celebrating with festivals and fun activities, from the Great Pumpkin Haul at Chisholm Trail Elementary to Lakewood's Fall Friendzee, just to name a few. Thank you to our parents, students and community partners, especially our adopted soldiers, who volunteer during these events!
