HTC Youth! Inc. was founded by Darren and Deb in 2017. The idea behind the organization is to provide high-quality coaching for beginning players in areas throughout Connecticut and surrounding states. The program seeks to establish youth programs in various towns for players in grades kindergarten through eighth grade, in order to prepare them for high school and college level playing.

What is your favorite HTC moment so far?

I couldn't just pick one, so .... my 2 favorite on-field HTC moments were both at 4Goals (2017 & 2018). The first was when our team was up by two goals, so I got to be the flyer on the defensive corner and the second was when Claire Taylor went into goal so I could play defense. My favorite off-field HTC moment was playing with the blue popper with my whole team between games at NIT @ Spooky Nook.
What has been your favorite high school FH moment so far?

My favorite high school memory was getting Mr. Beesley (Player of the Game) after going into the Guilford game my sophomore year at Daniel Hand.
What are you looking for in a collegiate FH program?

I am very lucky to be joining the Middlebury College Field Hockey Team next year! I knew that Middlebury was where I wanted to be from the first time I visited during my Freshman year! Not only is Middlebury College an amazing school academically, but the Field Hockey program is one of the most competitive and successful. The coaches and team culture were exactly what I was looking for.
What do you plan to major in at college and what do you see as a future career?

I am thinking about majoring in Neuroscience or Psychology so that I could become a psychologist.
Who is one of your heroes and why?

My brother, Remy, is one of my heroes. I admire his dedication. He is a DI athlete who rows for Northeastern University. I am amazed at how he handles stress (mental and physical) and is able to succeed academically and athletically.
What advice do you have for our younger HTC players?

Don't be afraid to try! There is no harm in trying out. I made the choice to try out for the RCC Team in 2016 and it has opened so many doors for me and really changed my life.
What has HTC meant to you?

I have made a lot of friends and had a lot of fun playing with HTC over the past 3 years! HTC has made me a better player and that has given me the opportunity to play field hockey at a very high level and attend the college that I have always wanted to attend.

What is your HTC moment?

My favorite HTC moments always occur during the summer when I coach at Trinity and get to play pick-up afterwards with the other coaches.
What do you do now in addition to your role at HTC?

I am a management liability insurance underwriter for Tokio Marine HCC. I insure companies all over the country.
Fun fact about yourself?

I have two different colored eyes.
What advice would you give to our current HTC players?

Work hard and remember to have fun with all your teammates.
How did club field hockey help you realize your dream of playing at the next level?

Colorado did not really have a true club team, but we were able to get teams together to send to tournaments. So by going to tournaments it helped me get more exposure. My dad also met Darren at a tournament and I was able to play with HTC during my summers in CT
What was your major in college?

I majored in Finance.
What is your favorite memory from your college playing days?

I have so many great memories from my playing days. One of my favorites is from my sophomore year when we beat Rutgers with only minutes left in the game. We had a picture perfect passing sequence from the defensive end, followed by a dive to tip it in at the far post. At the time Rutgers was in the Big East and we needed to win to make it to the Big East tournament. AND our team trip to Europe my senior year is up there with my favorite memories!

What is your HTC Moment?

Stepping onto the field for my first National Club Championships is my top HTC player moment. It was the first time we trained as a team for a high level tournament. A few years later, I was lucky enough to travel to the National Indoor Tournament as a coach. Bringing a team to the National Indoor Tournament and witnessing them experience the atmosphere and appreciate all the work they put in to get there is my top moment as a coach... so far.
What is your best college Field Hockey memory?

My best college field hockey moment was beating LIU Post in overtime my senior year. LIU Post was nationally ranked and we were having a difficult season. This was one of my best college field hockey moments because we came back in a game we were down and fought as a team the entire game for the win.
What is a Fun Fact about you?

I am in the middle of wedding planning and am getting married at The Barn at Wight Farm in Sturbridge this summer.
What are you doing now?

In addition to being a HTC Coach, I currently teach integrated pre-kindergarten at West Stafford School and am looking into masters programs to continue my education.
What does HTC mean to you?

HTC has made a great impact on my life. I remember the day I tried out for HTC as a freshman in high school. The club was just beginning and Deb & Darren were our coaches. The first time Deb explained to us the meaning behind HTC, I could feel her passion and excitement for the program. Deb and Darren have continued to instill this passion and excitement into every player and coach in the club. As an HTC player, my coaches constantly challenged and supported me. Playing for HTC prepared me for college field hockey and I learned many skills and lessons from my coaches on and off the field. HTC became a family to me and I am so honored that I am able to continue to be apart of this club as a coach.
What advice do you have for our current HTC players?

The advice I have for current HTC players is to enjoy every moment, work hard, and ask questions. Enjoy each practice, game, and tournament and consistently challenge yourself to grow and improve your skills. Don’t be afraid to ask your coaches questions, whether it be about a specific skill, drill at practice, or school! “Always work hard, never give up, and fight until the end because it’s never really over until the whistle blows.”
Community

HTC is Giving Back

Our club will choose one cause per year and work together to create awareness and raise money to help! This year I would like to announce that we will choose the Closer to Free Ride organization.

"I am thrilled that HTC will be participating to fight cancer! The sense of community, purpose, and pride that this organization brings to us as participants is like being on a team. To come together, make memories and have fun is what HTC is all about and so is Closer to Free!
I am honored to lead HTC's commitment to our community, to people that we personally know that have been affected by this disease, and spread our caring beyond the playing field."

Sarah Rahn
HTC Community Director

We will be asking for player volunteers who will serve as Community Ambassadors at each of our sites. These Ambassadors will help communicate with their site and help lead this fight! If you are interested in becoming one of our Community Ambassadors, click on the button to the the right.

We would also love to hear about how our players, coaches, and families are helping their communities!  We want to help you communicate your cause and share your commitment to improve lives. General Information
We will use this section of the newsletter to share common questions that we receive from players and their families. This will be the place to update you on general club information.

Can I attend any club practice at any site or do I have to attend at my home site only?

One of the benefits of our club is that players that are signed up for a club membership or clinic, can attend make up practices at any of our sites. You do not have to notify us that you will be attending another site, we will take attendance at all of our events so we will know what practices you have attended. So make sure you utilize this option in order to get your full compliment of practices!

Can I participate in indoor rules and outdoor rules tournaments?

Yes. Players can register and sign up to play in any tournament that we offer. Players do not have to have any indoor rules experience to play in an indoor rules tournament. We will teach you the rules on site! We encourage all players to compete in as many tournaments as possible as these are fun and a great way to showcase your new skills.

With the Spring Club season approaching, as a current club member, do I have to attend the Spring evaluations?

No! You are already a member of our club, so you do not have to attend any more evaluation sessions. Only NEW players that want to join our club will have to attend one of the evaluation sessions.

What is the Academy Program?
The Academy program is designed for the player that wants a little more practice and opportunity to enhance their skills. Our Academy players will also compete in tournaments together as a team. This winter the academy program consists of turf practices and hard court practices. Our California Academy program will offer players an additional day of practice. Stay tuned for our Spring Academy Program which will be announced shortly.
