Kristof and WuDunn received a Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of China’s Tiananmen Square movement and are the authors of the bestselling book Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide. Get Your Materials In the Library, or Curbside

All Deschutes Public Library locations are open for limited browsing, pick-up of holds, and basic business services (computer use, copying, printing, and faxing). Consider This: With Imbolo Mbue

Join award-winning author Imbolo Mbue on March 21 for a discussion about her work, including her new novel How Beautiful We Were. Mbue's Behold the Dreamers won the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction and was an Oprah's Book Club selection. The novel was adapted into an opera and a stage play, and optioned for a miniseries. A native of Limbe, Cameroon, and a graduate of Rutgers and Columbia Universities, Mbue lives in New York. This online program is made possible with support from Oregon Humanities, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Oregon Cultural Trust.

Write On! Poetry Edition: Just for Teens/Tweens

Poet and novelist Margaret Atwood said, "A word after a word after a word is power." Share the power of words with the teens or tweens in your life in March as Deschutes Public Library gives young writers a swag bag full of must-have writing essentials and then hosts an online workshop crafted to spark their inner poet. The bags are loaded with supplies to help young writers get their creative poetry write-on during spring break and beyond; an afternoon workshop on March 30 ties it all together with writing prompts and discussion. Write On! bags are available for teens March 16-20 during open hours at all Deschutes Public Library locations while supplies last.

Story Time Activity Kits to Go

We love story time crafts! And we know our young friends do too. We have fun activity kits available at our libraries every week for preschool-age kiddos. Each kit includes a story time rhyme sheet, a thematic craft, and a link to a related story time video on our YouTube channel. Be sure to check out our online calendar to find the dates and times for story time craft pick-up at your area library. If you're looking for even more crafts to do with kids of all ages, be sure to check out the hundreds of classes available on Creativebug—access is free with your library card! You'll even find fun STEAM-inspired classes on Creativebug, from making balloon-propelled vehicles to crafting flying squirrel gliders.

Online in March: Know Wild

Take a walk on the wild side in March as we explore the wonderful, natural world around us. Understand how to help wildlife in need and pollinators, like native bees. Participate in a virtual wildflower journey and discover local plants and their medicinal properties. Think globally with what species can show us for a climate-altered future, and act locally with new permit guidelines for your next hiking adventure. COVID-19 Vaccines and Info from Deschutes County Public Health

Deschutes County Public Health's latest update regarding COVID-19 vaccines and phases is now available. When you fill out the County's vaccine interest form at vaccine.deschutes.org, you will be notified you when you're eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Submitting your info will also keep you in the loop as new information comes available. Visit www.deschutes.org/health/page/covid-19-vaccine for information on vaccination phases.

We have a vacancy on the Deschutes Public Library System budget committee.
