Today we finished up our first quarter of school. (Can you believe it?) During the next week, teachers will be busy preparing the report cards that will be distributed at the parent/teacher conferences on Tuesday, November 6th. Everyone should have received their designated appointment time for that day. If you have not already done so, please send in the confirmation slip ASAP. Mrs. Cullen, the counselor, will work with you, if you should need a scheduling change.

Next week, we celebrate the Feast of All Saints on Thursday, November 1st. Monsignor Joyce will be here to celebrate Mass with us. We would love to have you  join us for this holy day of obligation.

I hope everyone has had a good week.

Enjoy a great weekend.

God's blessings,

Ms. Ann E. Dougal

Busy In the Computer Lab

Since the beginning of the school year, the children have been working very hard in the computer lab. Pre-K and Kindergarten have been learning their numbers and letters using websites such as ABCmouse.com. Grade 1 has been typing skill lessons using Microsoft Word and Grade 2 has been learning how to research a specific animal and create a small report of their findings.

Grades 3 is creating a poem about themselves. They are using different fonts, sizes, colors, borders, and images as well. Grades 4 and 5 are completing research assignments. Grade 4 is researching a good role model. Grade 5 is researching a Catholic saint of their choice. Both grades are creating reports as well.

Grade 6 is working with MS Publisher to create a brochure on a specific country. They are using text and images in the brochure and formatting a template with a specific design and color scheme. Grade 7 is creating a small portfolio about themselves. They are using MS Word to type a brief essay, wordle.net to create a word cloud, MS Word to design a collage and format a cover. Grade 8 is working on gathering information to input into a database in MS Access. Their database will consist of information on the  characteristics of the five types of vertebrates.

As you can see we have been very busy!

 Congratulations!

  PreK-4 News

I Spy A Jack-O-Lantern!

Ms. Enderlin's PreK-4 class "got into it" today carving pumpkins. Some of the brave students stuck their hands into the pumpkins to clean them while some looked on.

The result?  A fantastic Jack-O-Lantern that even lights up!  Have no fear parents...the light is battery powered!

A Big Thank You!

 Happy Birthday Mr. Ryan!

Your child(ren) might remember making a page that was going into a big birthday book.  Every grade worked hard and contributed!  Well... we wanted to show you the recipient of this special birthday card.

Mr. Ryan, one of our special donors, celebrated his 86th birthday and was extremely touched by his card that was hand delivered by Mrs. Lund. He said he had never received ANYTHING that was as special as this card and he couldn't wait to show it to his friends that also reside at Providence Place. He is also now the proud owner of a SMA sweatshirt as well.

Happy Birthday Mr. Ryan and thank you for all you do for St. Michael's Academy!

Altar Server Ministry

Ever consider becoming an altar server? We would like to invite you to join this ministry.

This is a wonderful learning experience for our young members of the parish. They learn about their faith and take on responsibility. The assistance of young people as altar servers at Mass is a ministry of great importance at Holy Cross Church. They help facilitate a reverent flow to the liturgy.

If you are a member of our parish, and your child would like to become a server, we welcome youth starting in grade 3 and up, who have made their First Communion. This is an excellent way for Catholic girls and boys to appreciate our great ritual of the Eucharist in faith and fellowship.

Training sessions will be provided and announced at a later date. If you are interested, please contact Maureen at 413-783-6428 for further information.
