Dear fellow travelers at Trinity,
Last week in our Zoom service we “tried on” giving everyone the opportunity to unmute and share particular intercessions during the prayers of the people. I was delighted by how many folks did so. It was a good reminder for me that, even though it has been challenging to pray virtually, Zoom has also given us opportunity to pray in new ways. I have appreciated hearing many voices raised in prayer, and would like to see that continue. Is there anything from your experience of praying on Zoom that you would like to bring to in-person worship when it resumes?

"Intercession," by Gwen Mehargg,

This week during the prayers of the people, we will be praying a portion of the Great Litany focusing on our elected leaders, members of the courts, and those who shepherd our communities. What gifts would you ask of God for them, or for leaders in any context?
Our lament this week lifts to God “injustices in society.” While we all may have differing opinions about exactly how to address injustices, and which ones need addressing, I think it safe to say that the world we live in does not reflect God’s dream for creation! And the magnitude of the problems that need attention may feel overwhelming. As you prepare for Sunday’s prayer, what would it be like to choose one particular concern close to your heart to bring to our lament? Because a lament is also a prayer, we might also ask God to help us discern one way to be a part of the “change we wish to see in the world,” as Mahatma Gandhi famously said.
As we will hear in Sunday’s gospel (John 2:13-22), Jesus’ response was to make a whip of cords and drive the moneychangers out of the Temple! Perhaps our own responses will be decidedly less dramatic, but no less important, in whatever way the Spirit leads us.
With prayers for Trinity as you discern that Spirit’s call,
Bryan

Municipal Parking Lot Work Slated Behind Trinity
Trinity received word that on February 22, the Highland Park City Council approved a contract to reconstruct the Central Avenue East-South Parking Lot.
This lot is located along the south side of Central Avenue, just east of 440 Central Ave. (across the alley behind the Trinity Church building). According to the city, construction is scheduled to begin in mid-March, weather permitting and if asphalt remains available as anticipated.
Construction will be completed in three stages, according to the city:
STAGE 1 (March 15 to April 30): During stage 1 the west half of the parking lot will remain open to the public. Construction activities will take place on the east half of the lot, which will be closed. Although the west half will be open, parking spaces will be reduced with limited spaces available.
STAGE 2 (May 3 to June 4): During stage 2 the east half of the parking lot will remain open to the public. Construction activities will take place on the west half of the lot, which will be closed. Although the east half will be open, parking spaces will be reduced with limited spaces available.
STAGE 3 (June 7 to June 11): During stage 3 the entire parking lot will be open to the public. There will be brief periods when parking is disrupted to allow the contractor to place the final asphalt surface layer and complete minor punch list items.

Scripture Study Meets Saturday Mornings
Please join us on Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. on Zoom for our Scripture Study.
Participants take turns facilitating prayer and reflection on any or all of the current Sunday's lectionary readings, which are available at https://www.lectionarypage.net (We use Track 1, if there is a choice.)
Weekly facilitators choose any or all of the readings and simply come prepared with a few wonderings or questions (not "quizzes") based on their selected scriptures to stimulate reflection--including questions they feel they cannot satisfactorily answer. Beyond that, leaders may prepare as little or as much as desired and employ whatever props or helps they wish.
(In case you missed it, our Saturday Scripture Study ceased being a "men's group" about a year ago; all are welcome.)
