Dear Saint Rose Families,

Our charism of Compassionate Community was in full force this week.  Tonight 200 plus students will attend truck or treat. This is a fantastic, family event that our Pirates Parent's Club hosts each fall.  The kids have a great time.  Earlier this week our preschool celebrated Grandparent's Day.  Our families created birthday bags for the children of Mom's House.  Grandparents were appreciative of the time they were able to spend with their grandchildren and that they were able to help others.  All of Saint Rose Catholic School is focused this month on caring for those with disabilities.  Kayla Gingrich interpreted our School Mass with sign language.  Students were able to see how those with hearing impairments sign Amen.  Two guest speakers spoke earlier in the week about living with disabilities.  William Scheremet, a missionary from St. Thomas More University Parish, spoke about his life in a wheelchair.  Mrs. Sharon Pinkelman, the  Saint Rose ASP clerk, spoke about her adult daughter and life with her disabilities.  It is our hope that through these experiences, our students form a great compassion for those within our community who have disabilities.

Starting Our Day With Prayer

Each morning members of the faculty start the day with prayer. They gather every Monday through Friday at 8:30 in the gym. Sr. Kathleen leads with a reflection and reading.  Prayer petitions are provided and the prayer ends with the Our Father.  Sometimes students join in.

Saint Rose Trunk or Treat Service


Members of the Saint Rose Catholic School community participated in the annual trunk or treat at Sunshine Communities.  It was a wonderful day and a great opportunity for our community to serve others as we focus this month on assisting those with disabilities.

Preschool Grandparent's Day

The 139 preschool students at Saint Rose Catholic School celebrated Grandparents Day by touring the school, visiting the book fair, having some snacks but most importantly, performing an act of service.  The students and their grandparents created birthday celebration bags for the children of Mom's House. Mom's House is a local nonprofit that supports young families with education, child care and support in order to break the cycle of poverty.  The birthday bags will be given to the children of Mom's House that might not otherwise have a gift to celebrate their birthdays.  



School Advisory Council Annual Survey

Dear Saint Rose School Families, 

Make sure that your voice is heard!
 
Our annual school survey is online starting now and will be open for just two weeks. We ask that every family take a few minutes to complete the survey. This is a very important tool to measure all aspects of our school: Catholic identity, academics, physical structure, classroom instruction, and other areas.  As members of Saint Rose School Advisory Council, we take our responsibility to heart -- to represent and support the best interests of our students and families, listen and express concerns and praises to the school, and help foster success for all Saint Rose School students. 
 
Most of the survey is quick, multiple choice questions, and we have provided blank space for you to type additional feedback if desired.  We want to emphasize that your answers are strictly anonymous. The experiences of our school families give each of us a unique voice, and our school survey ensures that all of our voices are heard, affirming all that is positive and successful while also working together toward continuous improvement on behalf of our students.  Thank you for supporting our school by taking the time to complete our school survey!  
The survey will be open from October 25 until November 9, 2018.  The school has a chance to earn an alternate dress day if we receive a 50% participation rate.

Volunteers Needed

On  December 1st  the American Red Cross will be holding a Blood Drive in the Sacred Heart Center.  We are in need of a few volunteers to help things go smoothly at registration.  If interested please visit the sign up genius below.  Baked treats and snacks are welcome as well, if you would like to be involved but cannot volunteer or donate.

Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences

Please click on your child's teacher's name to sign up for a parent/teacher conference. 


**New for Middle School** 
Conferences will be  student led . Please plan to attend with your child for this new format. Please see explanation from Dr. Borgelt below:

I am excited to announce that this fall our middle school students will have student led conferences. This is an approach to parent/teacher conferences that puts a greater emphasis for student learning on the student. It promotes student accountability, which is a major goal for any middle school program.  

Students will create portfolios by gathering exemplary and less than perfect work examples from the quarter.  They will also fill out self reflection sheets for each subject area.  The teachers will also fill out evaluations.  These portfolios will be sent home with the students on Friday,  November 2.  The students are to review the contents of the portfolios and address any questions prior to conferences with their parents at home.  Parents and students are to then attend the 6-8 grade conferences on November 7 and 8. Teachers will be happy to review your concerns and questions at conferences, but please don't be surprised when the teacher redirects some of the questions back to the students. 

While this process is a bit different than what has been done in the past, I think that you will be impressed with the results.

Open registration for BASKETBALL has ended. 
Late registrations will continue to be taken through November 12 and will incur and increased registration fee.
CYO Basketball is available for girls and boys in 3rd grade through high school.

If you did not play a fall CYO sport, don't forget to make your physical appointments soon. A doctor's signature is still required before participation.

ATTENTION BASKETBALL COACHES!
  • 3rd grade girls and 3rd grade boys basketball coaches needed. Please contact Aimee Sandvik if you are interested in volunteering to help coach!
  • Don't forget to register for CYO re-certification (returning coaches) or Initial Certification (new coaches). Please visit the CYO website for certification dates at, www.toledodiocese.org/index.php/cyo/athletics and get pre-registered through the St. Rose parish office.
  • There is a pre-season basketball coaches meeting scheduled for 6:00pm on Monday, November 5th in the Parish office upper conference room. Please plan to attend the meeting as we will be choosing team practice times and handing out equipment.

This is also National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
Students will experience an activity or lesson highlighting the gifts of individuals with Disabilities.

The Toledo Diocese Office for Persons with Disabilities sponsors a summer camp for families with a member who has a disability.

Our collections for Mass and Alternate Dress in October will be donated for the Family Camp.
