February 2021: Celebrating a win
By Jim Thompson
Long, long ago we started promoting steel and aluminum dryer cans. We questioned the continued use of a material, cast iron, that was long since eclipsed by more modern materials and more modern construction methods. This fall, in North America, a major manufacturer will be starting up a new machine in the board grades with steel dryer cans.
We would like to think we had a tiny part in creating the awareness and starting the discussion.
Steel dryer cans have been used in some applications for a long time. So have steel Yankees. However, to have a machine of the stature of the one being built to embrace steel dryer cans is a point for us to stop and reflect for a moment.
Now it is on to other matters.
We need you to serve on our board or to join a project here at the Light Green Machine Institute. There is much work to be done and will enjoy having you contribute to the ideas for the pulp and paper mill of tomorow.
Won't you join us? www.lightgreenmachine.institute.
