From the Associate Rector

Dear Ones,
This coming Sunday, the Church recognizes the feast day of St. Mary Magdalene -- a woman who has suffered some grave mislabeling throughout history. The Church honors Mary Magdalene because she was a devoted follower of Christ and was the first person to witness resurrection through an empty tomb. The life of Mary Magdalene speaks to the honor and wisdom of every woman.

As many of you know, St. Augustine's is a Magdalene Congregation, which means we support the work of Magdalene House Chicago, a 501c3 working towards providing a free, two-year residential recovery home for women who are leaving behind lives of incarceration, addiction, prostitution, trafficking, and more. It takes so much for this work to happen, and as a member of the Board of Directors, I thank you for your continued prayers and support.

This Sunday, and in the weeks to come, please remember Mary Magdalene. Pray that we can all bear witness to stories of resurrection all around us; pray for the women who are waiting for someone to offer them a chance at new life; and pray for this world and a culture that has too-often marginalized women.

What a day to celebrate and be together. I am looking forward to seeing you Sunday.
Thanks and peace,
Andrew+
Prayer Shawl Guild This Friday

Knitters and crocheters of any skill level (and those wanting to learn) are invited to the next gathering of the Prayer Shawl Ministry this Friday, July 20, 7:30pm, at Debbie Buesing's house (314 Laurel Ave, Wilmette). New participants are always welcome; patterns are provided. Bring refreshments to share if you like. Please contact Debbie to let her know if you can attend.
Non-Perishable Food Donations Needed This Sunday

Please consider bringing in non-perishable food donations which will be delivered to the New Trier Township Food Pantry after the 9:30am service this Sunday. Canned goods, cereal, pasta, peanut butter, jelly, and any other non-perishable items are needed and can be left in the hallway by the Outreach bulletin board. Questions? Contact Terry Haight.
Ride To Church Needed

For the past four months a small team from church has provided rides to and from church for a parishioner who lives at the Presbyterian Homes in Evanston. It's time to make a new rota and, hopefully, add a few additional drivers. If you are able to take a turn to bring a neighbor to church about once a month, please contact Julia Joehl. Thanks to those on the team who have faithfully provided rides and fellowship to a lady who loves to be at St. Augustine's on Sunday mornings.
Memorial Service for Mary Ann Eckstein July 28

Mary Ann Eckstein, mother of parishioner, Henry Eckstein, died on June 8 after a courageous bout with cancer. Family and friends are invited to a reception following the service at  Trattoria 225 (225 Harrison Street,  Oak Park). For more information please contact Henry.
Equipping the Saints Group July 29

All are invited and encouraged to read Chapter 3 before the meeting. Questions? Please contact Sam Love.
Sign-Up for St. A's Cottage Groups

Cottage Groups are small, diverse groups of parishioners who meet regularly (every 4-6 weeks or so) over the course of the program year, with the intent of building stronger connections and friendships over a potluck meal in the comfort of a group leader's home. St. A's Cottage Groups will begin meeting in September. To sign up as a Cottage Group participant, please  click here or sign up on the bulletin board. Sign-ups are open through August 12. Children are welcome. For more information, pleas contact Andrew .
