God’s Navigation System 2020

“When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God... you are to move out from your positions and follow it. Then you will know which way to go, since you have not been this way before.” Joshua 3:4

I had just returned from a whirlwind trip to Portland where I did some training, and as with any trip to an unfamiliar place, I depended heavily on my google maps and navigation system to get me to the right destination.

When travelling to the unfamiliar in traffic, on one-way streets, among manic drivers and crowds of pedestrians, it is a relief to know that the navigation system can predict and see that which you cannot. Most times it will lead you to your destination at the very minute it foretold.

Just a sidebar, on a rare occasion google maps does get it wrong!

I was traveling in another unfamiliar area in Oregon where there was a maze of country roads punctuated with twists, turns, pastures, vineyards and bridges.

I had been to that particular destination once before and the terrain wasn’t recognizable from my last trip, but I blindly followed the instructions from my faceless co-pilot (who I affectionately call “Schwaneeka”). To my shock I was led to an abandoned boat ramp staring at a river, not a soul in sight.

When the Israelites finally ended up facing the raging Jordan River after wandering around the wilderness for forty years, their leader Joshua (the Hebrew name for Jesus) had very specific instructions for them to follow:  “…As soon as you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God being carried by the Levitical priests, then you shall set out from your place and follow it… in order that you may know the way you shall go, for you have not passed this way before”   Joshua 3:3-4.

Not bad advice coming from the voice of their commander Joshua who represents our Lord and Savior Jesus. Consider also that the ark housed the stone tablets of God’s commands which specified His will, and a jar of manna which highlighted His provision.

This is God’s navigation system for his people when they travel to unknown regions where there are intimidating giants, temptations, warfare, and foreigners who not only don’t want you there but will do anything to destroy you and your faith (if it were possible).

I love the phrase “ in order that you may know the way you shall go, for you have not passed this way before." I mean, how practical can you get? We, in our one-dimensional finite state, don’t even know what’s around the next bend of our life.

But like the satellites above that detect every detail on the planet then transmit that data to our navigation system, our omnipotent and omnipresent God sees everything and is everywhere.

How foolish would we be to enter a new year, new relationship, new experience or new anything without fixating our eyes on His Word, ability to provide and Lordship over our lives?

We have never been this way before, but He not only knows what’s going to happen, He is the one who has specifically carved out our route, destination, estimate arrival time and knows everything that is going to happen between now and then.

What is there to figure out or worry about concerning our tomorrows?

All we have to do is keep our eyes on Him, devour His map of truth, and trust that He knows where He is taking us. And like Schwaneeka, He NEVER misleads us or makes mistakes!

Happy New Year

Bill Gallagher

Connecting with the Community
2019 was a year of amazing growth and ministry here at The Pregnancy Center and we are so excited for what God is doing in our community and the place He has called us to rise up and meet the needs of women in crisis. We find ourselves in need of fellow sisters and brothers in Christ who feel a calling to step into ministry to these same women and we have three volunteer opportunities that need to be filled as quickly as possible.

First, we are in need of women who would be willing to be trained to be mentors in our office. This position is a once a week commitment for a minimum of 3 hours on the same day each week. We would provide training for you to learn how to take your assigned clients through the Earn While You Learn program. This education program covers everything from pregnancy related information, through parenting infants and life skills. This program is an invaluable tool for our clients as they learn to create healthy lives and healthy families.

Second, we are in need of women to be mentors on our Mobile Medical Unit. This position would also be a once a week commitment for 3 or 4 hours. We would train you to assist the nurse with greeting clients as they enter the van for medical services, helping with the intake process and being the “observer” during ultrasound procedures. This is a vital position that allows the nurses the freedom to focus on the tests, procedures and interventions.

Third, we are looking for people (men or women) who are willing to be trained as Sidewalk Advocates. Sidewalk Advocates are instrumental in directing clients to the Mobile Medical Unit and the life-affirming services of The Pregnancy Center in a peaceful, prayerful and legal way. Clients who might otherwise choose abortion at our local abortion provider. This 5 hour training will happen on Saturday, February 1 st from 9am – 3pm and will give you all the tools you need to reach the hearts of women so they can confidently choose life.

If you feel an interest or calling to be involved in this pro-life, pro-woman, pro-family work please give our office a call to learn how to get started right away. 541.772.1921
