July & August 2019 Newsletter from the Figaro Owners Club - Issue No: 105
Good Morning ,

Welcome to our July & August Newsletter!

Our club is all about creating those special friendships
Without question, the Wales Figaro Rally 2019 which took place a couple of weeks ago was the best yet! But, in fairness I always seem to say this every time we return from one, haha. In additional to the wonderfully (and very quiet) roads, one of the benefits often overlooked are the close friendships formed whilst on a rally. The club is a real leveller and although members come from all walks of life (and on this rally, different parts of the globe) we all share a common passion for this special little car and this passion creates an amazing bond.

As an example Pakistani chapter member Khurram & Banish Saqib flew in to attend the rally and was given such a warm welcome by everyone, so much so that a few days later he was seen on Facebook in Scotland with Heather & Reid Martin and later in the Yorkshire Dales with Jane Ellison-Bates & Mark Bamforth.

To me personally it re-enforces the club's ethos of a family of like-minded people who all seem to enjoy each other's company and love the Figaro. By attending the rally, our little Figaros have brought us all together, but now, new and existing friendships will continue...

Together let's make 2020 a summer of endless Figgy meets...
In the last newsletter we talked about our aims to create more opportunity to attend Figaro meets next year by working with our members to create numerous events up an
down the UK and even overseas.

Following our epic Wales Figaro Rally a couple of weeks ago it reinforced this initiative.

"Something magical occurs when
like minded owners meet up
to share their figgy love "

As an example a few weeks ago
our Irish members met up meeting at Bray beach then convoy to Powerscourt Waterfall. This event was promoted through our Facebook Chapter and attracted 5 cars on the day so it shows how easy it came be achieved.

8 simple steps to create your own local meet
  1. Give your event a name
  2. Identify a meeting point (Address/Postcode)
  3. Pick a date
  4. Write a short description
  5. Identify any costs
  6. Consider any restriction of numbers of cars
  7. Decide on how we get members to register (direct to your email or via our form)
  8. Send a picture or we can source one for you
We need your help
Any member of the club can create a meet. We are more than happy to do the heavy lifting and help you create your event. We can also work with our Chapter Coordinators.

"As we said before as a club we want to be the catalyst to give as many members as possible the opportunity to attend local drive outs, drive in a convoy, show off their fig, make figgy friends and have fun. After all, that's what the club is all about"

I am interested, how do I start?

Figaros 30th Birthday Party - June 2021

Although still two years away we are already starting to make tentative plans for this massive celebration. We want to nail the exact date and venue by the winter which will allow 18 months to promote it. At the 25th Birthday we managed to attract 266 cars so our mission is to see if we can beat this!

Dutch Figaro After Summer Tour 2019

Members Pascal & Joyce Snel have announced a late summer rally at De Hebberd, Amersfoort.

The 'Puzzle Tour' will include a nice lunch location, from where the second part of the day will start. It will finish at "de Veluwe" which is a very pretty part of the Netherlands.

The Classic Car Giveaway Players Receive Full Refunds

Like many of us, you may have watched the live prize draw by The Figaro Shop on Facebook last month. Well it seems the lucky winner Stuart Harvey already owned a lapis grey Figaro! Now we all know how easy we get attached to our Figs so it came as no surprise that rather than accept the winning car would it be possible to spend the equivalent amount on restoring their existing Figaro?

This was agreed and due to the fact that no one actually won a car in an unprecedented (and we feel very generous) move The Figaro Shop decided to refund everyone who took part.
Figaros explore the mighty Asagiri Plateau

Japanese Member Yuki Saga who lives in Tokyo sent us a video of a Figaro meet which took place on the 6th April in the Asagiri plateau. This amazing landmass is located at the south west base of Mount Fuji in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.

31 Figs ran in the direction of Mount Fuji. Judging by the video it looks like they had a great time. What an awesome location for a rally. Watch Video
Walter gets his very own raincoat

Member Marilyn Read thought this might amuse us. After solving her wet carpet problem by cleaning out all the tiger seal that someone had put in the channels of the rubber seal.

Marilyn still had a problem with rain getting under the roof edge. So she got out the sawing machine and took drastic action by making her Figaro named 'Walter' a nice raincoat.

She points out it only temporary until he gets a new roof!
Johnnie Walker mentions Figaro Owners Club on 'Sounds of the 70's Radio Show

Thanks to members Lorna & Graeme Rae we got a mention the legendary DJ show a few weeks ago!

Struggling to pronounce Llandrindod Wells (haha I'm not the only one then) he went on to say what a great club they belong to and its all thanks to the passion of Kevin. Oh I'm now blushing!!!

Revised A-Z Figaro Parts Directory

We have made some changes to our club website to allow easier sourcing of Figaro Parts.

We hope it will be easier for users to identify where to buy parts. We have not included prices as these are always changing. The choice of where to buy from is left to the you, all we are trying to achieve is to identify who sells what and where you can buy.

Read full list now Click here

Know of a Figaro supplier not listed?
We are always keen to expand the range of sellers so if you buy Figaro parts from good company please share with us.

My son Daniel in June 2008
About the club

How the club started
My son Daniel had always wanted a Figaro, having seen the car at our local garage when he was just 16. After saving for a number of years (plus a small contribution from his mum and dad) he brought an Emerald Green model in June 2008.

Following the purchase we scoured the internet for a members club in the hope that we could attend events with other owners, but were amazed that none existed...and so the Figaro Owners Club was born!  We decided to build a website and forum which took 6 months, and on the 1st March 2009 we pressed the 'publish button' and waited to see if anyone wanted to join. Within a week we had 10 members, a month 35 and a year 478 members.

Today the club has around 1,250 members worldwide in countries including New Zealand, Japan, Australia, USA, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Sweden and many more.
We are grateful to you and all our other members for help and encouragement throughout our journey as the club has grown into a passion which has taken over our lives.
Warmest Regards
