Addition to Your Summer Reading List:
The Co-Moderators of the General Assembly have recommended the book Neighborhood Church: Transforming Your Congregation into a Powerhouse for Mission for congregational and presbytery study. At our September Presbytery meeting , Rev. Cindy Kohlmann, one of those Co-Moderators, will be joining us and we will be discussing the book. Whether you plan to attend that meeting or not, this book has something to say to each church in our presbytery. This book includes practical advice for assessing the ministry your church is already engaged in and for discerning what new areas of ministry your church might be called into as you evaluate the community around you. As our presbytery prepares to embark on a journey through the Vital Congregations Initiative with several churches, this book is a good starting place for us all as it lifts up several of the “marks” of what makes up a vital congregation. The questions at the end of each of the 5 chapters should foster lively discussion, prayerful discernment, and playful dreaming. Plus, the book is only a little over 100 pages! You are encouraged to read this individually, as a book group, a session, or as a church-wide endeavor. May God bless our churches as we read and study together!

If you have any questions please contact Council Member Rev. Jamie Milton at: pastorjmilton@gmail.com or (330) 652-5712

The book may be purchased in paperback or e-book format from www.pcusastore.com or another favorite online or retail book shop.
Eastminster Presbytery
Representatives for the 224th General Assembly

The 224th General Assembly will take place June 20-27, 2020 in Baltimore. Our Nominations and Representation Committee is now accepting applications for Teaching Elder Commissioner, Ruling Elder Commissioner, and Young Adult Advisory Delegate. Application Deadline: September 3, 2019 . All costs for those elected by Eastminster Presbytery as Commissioner or Delegate (TE, RE, or YAAD) will have their travel, lodging, and per diem costs covered by General Assembly per capita. The only costs incurred by Commissioners or Delegate (TE, RE, YAAD) will be personal expenses.

The General Assembly (GA) reviews the work of synods, resolves controversies in the church, is responsible for matters of common concern for the whole church, and serves as a symbol of unity for the church. GA has several specific responsibilities. The assembly seeks to protect our church from errors in faith and practice, is responsible for assuring that the expression of our theology remains true to the biblical standards in our historic confessions. The General Assembly presents a witness for truth and justice in our community and in the world community. It sets priorities for the church and establishes relationships with other churches or ecumenical bodies.

DiscipleFest 2019

October 12, 2019

Poland Presbyterian Church
2 Poland Manor
Poland, OH 44514

Keynote Speaker: Rev. Kristin Stroble
Submit your proposal for an Ignite talk at this year's Disciplesfest!

Our 2019 DiscipleFest will engage you in creative, spirit-inspired worship, and equip you with ideas to take back to your congregations. We also recognize that there is great wisdom in our midst for creating worship that challenges, teaches, transforms, and deepens our relationships with God and each other. In that spirit we invite you to share the creative, life-giving things that are happening with worship in your congregation. Each presentation is to be 5 minutes or less (and will be timed) and is to be designed in a way that sparks imagination and gets people thinking about the small and large ways we can transform our worship services.

Ignite is a feature of the PCUSA Next Church Gatherings ( nextchurch.net ) and there are Ignite talks around the country, based on the mission that "Everyone Speaks." For more information on the beginnings of Ignite talks go here:  http://www.ignitetalks.io/about.

S afe and Together: Domestic Violence, Substance Abuse, and Mental H ealth
Many child welfare cases involve multiple issues, including substance abuse, domestic violence, and mental health issues. Often these are seen as "co-occurring" and families are sent to different service providers for each issue. But, research shows us that they are often points of intersection related to each other. This advanced training explores these intersections and looks at how perpetrators can use substances or mental health conditions as another means of control; how adult and child survivors turn to substances to cope; and the impact of domestic violence on victims' ability to secure treatment.

  • Northminster Investigating Yoking

Northminster Presbyterian Church in Cuyahoga Falls was formed in 1953. Our congregation, as with many mainline denominational churches, has been through many challenges. Through it all, Northminster has remained a caring, friendly and vibrant congregation in our community and Eastminster Presbytery!

Currently, Northminster has a task force working to discern the possibility of yoking with another congregation. We would welcome any insight, experiences and prayers during this time. We believe the challenges and changes for our times call us to seek new ways to be the church together. Yoking churches is one way in which we can be good stewards of our resources and be connectional in our ministry and witness to our Lord Jesus Christ.
