Mayor's Message
We’ve got so much going on in July! There’s a lot of big news this month and it’s all due to the City’s #ProgressInMotion.

Kicking off this month is our bigger-than-ever Pasadena 4th Fest at the Pasadena Convention Center Fairgrounds, hosted by our Parks & Recreation Department. This FREE concert at the Pasadena Rodeo Arena features local reggae favorites, Th3rd Coast Roots opening the show, followed by Texas Country music icon, Kevin Fowler. The family-friendly event wraps up with a massive fireworks show under the stars.

We will also be celebrating new beginnings in July with the scheduled groundbreaking for the new Pasadena Police & Fire Academies and implosion plans for the old First Pasadena State Bank Building. Professional demolition crews are working with several of our City departments to make sure the event is as safe for the public as it is memorable. Dates and details will be posted on social media soon.

Our Community Relations team is also getting ready for two of their biggest events: Fill the Bus and Neighborhood Network’s Team UP to Clean UP . Both of these programs bring out the best in Pasadena. It’s always a genuine pleasure to see our residents and our businesses stepping up to help those in need. Have a safe and blessed July 4 th Holiday and I’ll see you at Pasadena 4 th Fest!
#ProgressInMotion Industry News
Houston Spaceport Project Takes Off
It was an exciting groundbreaking right in our backyard for the Houston Spaceport at Ellington Field. The first phase is underway for the $18.8 million project that will become a home for high-tech companies and a new learning center for San Jacinto College.
Safe Neighborhoods = Safe City
The Pasadena Police Department continuously works hard to develop relationships with our residents as they strive to keep our city safe. In early June, after a complaint from neighbors in the Parkview Estates Subdivision, a group of officers worked diligently to take the proper actions necessary to gather sufficient evidence to issue a Felony Warrant at a nearby house. A successful investigation and warrant execution resulted in the arrests of 3 individuals suspected of ongoing narcotics activity. The officers were commended for their actions. Pasadena is safer because of the expertise and commitment of all of our first responders.
Progress in the Port
Mayor Wagner recently joined area leaders at the Pasadena Convention Center for the annual Economic Alliance Port Region’s Legislative Wrap-Up Luncheon. Legislators from our region met to discuss the state of our area’s economy and the importance of development in East Harris County.

Our Neighborhood Network Department is now accepting applications for their second annual Team UP to Clean UP program . Team UP to Clean UP 2019 partners neighbors, churches, students, business, industry and volunteer groups with seniors, disabled veterans and economically disadvantaged homeowners who are unable to perform their own minor exterior home repair and yard cleanup. If you or someone you know needs help, contact Pasadena Neighborhood Network to apply. Deadline is July 20.
Water Bill News
Each year, the Texas Municipal League conducts a Water & Sewer Rate Survey. Over 600 cities responded. According to the survey Pasadena ranks some of the lowest water and sewer rates and is one of the few cities that offers discounted rates for customers aged 65+. After the Gavel
The July 2 City Council meeting ushered in a new lineup, with some familiar faces. We would like to welcome back Ornaldo Ybarra, as he returns to Pasadena City Council, representing District A. Mr. Ybarra had previously served as councilman from 2009-2017.

At the June 18 meeting, Councilman, Felipe Villarreal addressed the audience and the cameras during his last meeting as District A representative. Mr. Villarreal commended the Neighborhood Network Department, the Public Works Department and all City Directors for their support and hard work during his term. During Councilman Villarreal’s term, District A saw several successful street, bridge and drainage projects, including Scarborough, Thomas, Wafer and Richey streets, as well as the groundbreaking for the new Municipal Court Building. Following the Council meeting, a going-away reception was held for Councilman Villarreal. We thank Mr. Villarreal for his integrity and loyalty to District A and the City of Pasadena. He will be missed.
