Andrew R. "Andy" Berkey, 73, of Wadsworth, died Thursday, June 20, 2019, at the residence of his best friend, Mark, in Glenmont, following a period of declining health.
He was born December 23, 1945, in Lodi to the late Andrew D. and Mary Jane (Flath) Berkey and lived most of his life in Wadsworth.
Andy graduated from Wadsworth High School in the class of 1964. In 1966 he was drafted into the Army to serve his country in the Vietnam War.
Following his service to his country, he worked at Renner Motor Lines, and then became a Bricklayer, all while maintaining his farm that he loved dearly.
He enjoyed traveling to see friends in Woodsfield, Ohio, North Carolina, and most recently loved cabin life in Loudonville, Ohio, where he met many new friends over the past ten years.
Surviving is daughter, Lyn Ann (Chuck) Lance; 2 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; nephew, M. Thomas Fortner, Jr.; neice, Stephanie I. (Frank) Zonar; brother, Johny Jr. Berkey; sisters, Nancy Jean Berkey and Sandy Faye (Millard) Fortner; 4 great nephews; 1 great niece; and best friend, Mark Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Donald W. Berkey.
Graveside services took place Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville.
There was a luncheon following the graveside service at the American Legion #170, 129 Main St., Wadsworth, OH.
