Monthly News from the President's Palette
With the summer days slipping slowly by, I hope you have had a chance to enjoy the natural splendors of living in the beautiful state of Florida. Here are a few ideas to help you seek out creative inspiration in uniquely Florida-types of ways this month.
Slowing down to soak in the sunset that screams in technicolor is a must this summer. The Saharan Desert sand rides the trade winds to hover in our atmosphere, creating watercolor paintings in our Florida skies. Take some quick pics and revisit them with some paper and paint the next day.
Mindfully walk your favorite of the 1,350 miles of Florida’s coastline looking for interesting “gifts from the sea.” As Anne Morrow Lindbergh wrote, “The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. To dig for treasures shows not only impatience and greed, but lack of faith. Patience, patience, patience, is what the sea teaches. Patience and faith. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach -- waiting for a gift from the sea.” Learn new crafts to make with your treasures.
Chase some shadows in the summer sun. Find some curious compositions and capture them in photographs.
Try making a July Moon Journal. What changes each evening? What newness can you discover? Reset, reflect, release, refine, and set actions each evening.
After the gorgeous sunsets, turn your gaze to the constellations in the July sky. Head to the beach in the evening to see the sky without light pollution, and maybe even witness some sea turtles nesting and hatching.
We are so fortunate to live in a state that has such extraordinary natural beauty. I hope these ideas inspire you to see new things and make new art!
