Three Schools Receive STEM B.E.S.T. Award in Northeast Iowa
As part of the Iowa Governor's STEM Advisory Council initiative to bring teachers and industry professionals together to help prepare students for STEM careers, 13 schools were selected to be a 2019 STEM B.E.S.T. (
Businesses Engaging Students and Teachers) Program Partner.
The STEM B.E.S.T. Program supports school-business partnerships that allow teachers and industry professionals to work side-by-side on curriculum and projects that give students actual workplace experience and an understanding of the opportunities and required skills for careers in STEM fields.
Congratulations to the STEM B.E.S.T. awardees in Northeast Iowa. They include;
- Jesup Community School District
- New Hampton Community School District
- Waterloo Community School District
A total of 63 STEM B.E.S.T. partnerships have been established since the program launched in 2014. For more information about the STEM B.E.S.T. Program, visit

STEM Festival in Elkader was Inspirational!
On October 24, we had over 250 people attend the STEM festival in Elkader.
Exhibits featured interactive STEM activities for students and their families. Attendees conducted amazing science experiments, observed a variety of fascinating animals, performed surgery with a Laparoscopic Surgical Trainer, tested their skills on a welding simulator, and much more!

Northeast Iowa STEM Region Awards
Scale-Up Programs
Educators throughout Iowa had an opportunity to apply for one of three Math Scale-Up Programs in September.
The programs were Bootstrap:Data Science, Desmos Middle School Math and Differentiated Math Centers.
On October 31, the Northeast Iowa STEM Region awarded 127 educators throughout the region a Math Scale-Up Program. Awards will impact nearly 3,600 students.
Educators will take part in trainings for the awarded programs, followed by implementation during the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic year.
