ICA is excited to announce a big increase of our Diversity Scholarships from $1,000 to $2,500 thanks to the generosity of two anonymous donors.
ICA's 2019 Diversity Scholarship recognizes the potential of students to cultivate diversity in the Capital Region by providing scholarship awards to one undergraduate and one graduate student each year.
The Greater Victoria area is growing and now reflects a variety of ethnicities, customs, languages, beliefs, abilities, values, and talents. According to the 2016 census, 18.3 per cent of Victoria's residents are immigrants born outside of Canada. Nearly nine per cent of Victoria residents are members of a visible minority ethno-cultural group.
"ICA is excited to be able to increase support for students seeking to learn more about creating culturally sensitive communities," says Jean McRae, ICA Chief Executive Officer. "Our scholarship program is an investment in the cultural capital of Greater Victoria."
Annually, for the next three years, ICA will award one $2,500 undergraduate scholarship and one $2,500 graduate scholarship for students in, or accepted into, degree programs at colleges and universities in the Greater Victoria area.

ICA's current multi-disiplinary performance is indeed a community and team effort! We knew we wanted to create a show that celebrated diverse local talent, but also one that challenged current beliefs and questioned community barriers to meaningful inclusion. You have an opportunity to experience this amazing performance on July 13.

Food, Song, and Story: LINC Year End
|
From chilly autumn field trips to experience Canadian nature at Goldstream Park to the warmth of summer sun at the end-of-term potluck in Central Park, our LINC students have completed another action- and learning-packed year at ICA.
Learning English is vital to attaining Canadian citizenship, finding work, and feeling more settled in Canada. It's a lot of work for newcomers, but our dedicated LINC team of teachers and volunteers at ICA work hard to help build a sense of community and to assist every single student in having the skills and confidence to reach their goals. Some of the teachers held cooking classes to prepare for the United Way bake sale fundraiser held in November.
Students are happy to be asked to contribute and proud of the results of their work with a real sense of pride when they can use their own skills to help others.
