Golden State Finance Authority Provides
Shasta County $250,000 to Assist Victims of Carr Fire
SHASTA COUNTY, CA – Golden State Finance Authority (GSFA) announced today that it has provided a $250,000 grant to Shasta County residents impacted by the Carr Fire, the seventh most destructive fire in California history.

California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) estimates that over 1,800 residential, commercial and other structures were damaged or destroyed in Shasta County from the Carr Fire in 2018. The fire, designated a state and federal disaster, also claimed the lives of three fire personnel and civilians as it burned over 229,600 acres.

The $250,000 grant from GSFA has been administered to the Shasta Regional Community Foundation (SRCF), an experienced and reputable non-profit in Shasta County, for the provision of rebuilding assistance to uninsured and under-insured property owners within Shasta County affected by the Carr Fire. Many residents whom lost their homes in the Carr Fire had no homeowner's insurance at the time of the fire or had homeowner's insurance inadequate to fully cover the cost of rebuilding a comparable home. GSFA allocated the disaster assistance funds to provide financial assistance to these homeowners for rebuilding costs such as development services fees for issuing permits, reviewing plans, conducting inspections, and installation of sprinkler systems in the replacement homes.

“It is our hope that this focused approach to supporting the most vulnerable fire victims, the uninsured or under-insured, will help the community rebuild easier and faster,” said Craig Ferguson, GSFA Deputy Director. “Over the past three years, GSFA has provided over $3.5 million in emergency disaster assistance to address the impact of forest fires on California residents.
