Fourth of July Pet Safety Tips
Fourth of July fireworks and celebrations can be stressful and scary for pets; taking a few precautions can help keep your four-legged family members safe. Make sure pets have up-to-date identification tags, and if your pet isn’t already microchipped, talk with your veterinarian – this simple procedure can greatly improve the chances of being reunited with a lost pet. Take a current photo of your pet just in case they become lost. If possible, it’s best to keep pets indoors on the Fourth, and you may want to consider confining them to an escape-proof room or crate. Keeping the TV or radio on can help mask the noise from fireworks and providing chew toys or special treats can help keep them busy. If your pet must be outside, make sure your yard is secure, gates are locked, and that your pet has access to fresh water and shade. If your pet becomes lost, contact City of Folsom Animal Services at 916-461-6040 or ccatanio@folsom.ca.us .
