A Message from the City Manager...

Happy Birthday, Murrieta! Twenty-eight years ago, a group of hardworking individuals achieved their goal
when citizens voted to incorporate
the City
of Murrieta.
Since then the City has changed dramatically and
has a population of
over
1
15,000 residents
,
and
been named the #1 City to live in South Riverside County by the Press Enterprise for the third year in a row! To celebrate the City has launched a new marketing logo that embraces both
our history and exciting future. Don't worry, the diamond and windmill will remain in the official City seal, this new logo and tagline is for marketing materials.

e new logo and tagline, Connected by Community were debuted at the annual State of the City by the Mayor along with the numerous new programs and projects beginning this year.

On Wednesday, June 12, at the Murrieta/Wildomar Chamber of Commerce,
Premier Designs Jewelry celebrated their fourth anniversary by hosting a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
Premier Designs boasts a unique line of specialty jewelry that is interchangeable, fashionable, and fun. Congratulations to this local business!

On Tuesday, June 25,
Assistance League of Temecula Valley
hosted a 30 year anniversary Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Mayor Kelly Seyarto was on hand to present a certificate to the Assistance League and congratulate them on being such a valuable part of this community. ALL Fireworks are Illegal in Murrieta
|
Summer fun includes barbeques, picnics, and pool parties with family and friends, especially when celebrating Independence Day. However, the threat of fire and injuries from illegal fireworks, including Safe and Sane, can ruin the fun for everyone. Murrieta Fire & Rescue reminds residents that all fireworks including items which explode, rise in the air, or move around on the ground are considered illegal in Murrieta.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), on a typical Fourth of July, fireworks cause more fires in the U.S. than all other causes combined. It isn't just the threat of a wildfire that makes them dangerous, but fireworks set off in a neighborhood could land on the roof of a house, in the backyard, or in dry bush, and possibly start a fire. In addition to fires, fireworks can cause deaths, blindness, injuries and frighten family pets.
While sparklers may seem harmless, they are also illegal in Murrieta and reportedly the biggest offenders for burns on hands and fingers, especially with young children. The temperature of a sparkler can range from 1800 to 3000 degrees Fahrenheit and are hot enough to cause severe burns.

Summer Travel Safety Tips
|
|
Michael Norman Jr. is an American track and field athlete and Vista Murrieta High School alumni. In high school, Michael broke the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) 400 meter record with a time of 45.19 seconds. Michael holds several CIF (high school) and NCAA Division 1 (college) awards. In addition, he was ranked first in the world for the 400 meter sprint last year. Michael is a very hard-working young man and we are so proud of his accomplishments. Great job, Michael, we look forward to hearing about your next achievements.

Upcoming Programs at the Murrieta Library

It's that wonderful time when school is out and the library ramps up the Summer Reading fun! Don't be left out, sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge at
www.murrietalibrary.info. All it takes is r
eading five library books to complete the challenge and win a prize.
Upcoming family programs include:
- Juggler Michael Rayner on July 10, at 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.
- Animal Magic on July 17, at 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Attendance is limited to 90. Wristbands will be available 30 minutes before each event. Please arrive early as parking and event space will fill up quickly.
- For teens, there will be a Teen Film Contest July 1 -7
- Taste Test Japan on July 18, at 4 p.m. Registration and waivers are required for teen programs. Go to http://bit.ly/murrietateens for more information.
- Adults will have an opportunity to learn the basics of color pastel drawing at the Beginning Pastels program on July 10, at 2 p.m. On July 15, at 3 p.m. is Gardening with California Native Plants.
- The Summer Reading Challenge ends July 20.

The City's Community Services Department is challenging all of our lap swimmers to "Swim to San Diego." Do you think you have what it takes to swim the 66 miles from Murrieta to San Diego? Join the Swim to San Diego club at the California Oaks Sports Park for free and begin logging your miles. Swimmers that "Swim to San Diego" will be given a gift at the completion of their challenge. Summer fun includes being water safe! Swim lesson registrations are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis via on-line registration (www.MurrietaCA.gov/classes) and walk-in. Residents can register their child(ren) beginning at 8 a.m. on July 5, July 19, or August 2. Resident walk-in registration is available on this same day also beginning at 8 a.m. at California Oaks Sports Park. Non-resident registration is available the next day after resident registration closes. Swim lessons are offered as early as 6 months with the Infant and Pre-school Aquatics Program (IPAP) through Level IV - Stroke Development. The resident cost is $45 and the non-resident cost is $55. Parks and Recreation Commission
|
Interested in planning for the City's newest park? The Parks and Recreation Commission typically meets the first Thursday of odd numbered months, which for July would be July 4. As July 4 is a national holiday, the Parks and Recreation Commission is moving its meeting date to 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, at Avaxat Elementary School. One of the topics up for discussion will be an opportunity to apply for a grant that is put on by the California Department of Parks and Recreation through Proposition 68 passed by California voters last June 2018. The grant's primary purpose is to develop an open space area into an all-inclusive recreational park designed to afford youth with physical, developmental, and cognitive challenges the ability to play in a safe, outdoor environment.

blankets, and a picnic dinner.

The weekly Youth Center Summer Camp program is still going on for incoming 3rd to 5th graders through August 2, from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. Activities will feature culinary treats, sports, science, art, aquatics, peer interaction, and lots of adventure! The cost is $60 per week with the program accepting a maximum of 20 students each week.
