Top Mental Skills for Peak Performance in Soccer
Free Workshop
FC Richmond's Junior Board is excited to partner with Michael Cerreto, Sports Psychology Counselor, for a free player workshop, Top Mental Skills for Peak Performance in Soccer , on January 27th, from 5:30-7pm at the DoubleTree Hotel. Register HERE.

Workshop Description: To achieve the highest level in soccer, you need to consistently execute five key mental skills each practice and game. These mental skills are noticeable on the field and are the ones college coaches look for when making recruiting decisions. The athletes who possess them achieve a higher level of play and success throughout their careers in club and college soccer.
The problem is that most soccer players only possess one or two of those skills and fall short to achieve their full potential. This deficit also keeps an entire team from winning against the best opponents, always falling short.
Don’t fall short. FC Richmond is conducting a special clinic for U14 and older players to teach you the five mental skills. You walk away with tangible actions to take to develop them.

Michael Cerreto is a Sports Psychology Counselor with A Talented Mind Clinic in Richmond, Virginia working with athletes in the United States and Canada.
FC Richmond's NEW Mentor Program
We are excited to announce a new FC Richmond Player Mentor Program supported by the FC Richmond staff and the Junior Board. The mentor program is a great leadership opportunity for U16-U19 travel players to mentor younger players within the club (and a great way to gain quality volunteer hours)! The commitment will be for one season (8-12 hours total). For more information and to sign up click HERE.
Club Champions League
Did you know that FC Richmond Magic and Mystx players are part of The Club Champions League (CCL)? The CCL is the first, and largest, club-based youth soccer league in the United States. With four distinct competitive divisions, and two conferences (CCL and CCL New England) the league has over 15,500 participants, and over 75,000 registered youth soccer players within CCL member clubs in nine states and the District of Columbia. The CCL is larger than many state associations.
The organization was founded on a simple concept that includes three main features:
1. Superior Competition
2. A Model for Player Development and
3. A Governing Board made up of Professional Soccer Directors
Trip Ellis, Director of Coaching for FC Richmond, sits on both the Governing Board and Executive Board for the CCL.

The CCL has become the destination for the college bound soccer player. The CCL is recognized by top colleges and universities around the United States for consistent development of future collegiate players. In addition to the two College Showcases, the CCL offers an annual platform for players to be trained and coached by some of the very best NCAA college programs in the country. FC Richmond's Magic and Mystx players will take part in the CCL College Showcase Jan 31-Feb 2, as well as the CCL College Combine February 8 & 9. CCL member clubs send over 300 players per year to collegiate programs. Currently, over 1,000 student-athletes are on college rosters!
"Beyond the Game" Players
The U17 Mystx team recently participated in a Christmas Mother event. They sponsored a four year old girl and her family to buy presents for this holiday season. From new toys to clothes, every player bought something to give to the child. On Sunday, December 1st, they met together and wrapped all of the gifts to bring to the family a few days later. Wrapping these gifts for a child in need shows the importance of giving back to those less fortunate, especially during this time of year. The U17 team was able to go ‘Beyond the Game’ by coming together off the field to impact the lives of people in our community.

Nick Taitague in the News
Former FC Richmond Magic player, Nick Taitague, is in the news for his success playing professionally abroad! Nick started out in FC Richmond's recreational program at age 5. He continued into the PDP program and finished with FCR playing on Magic teams. We would like to congratulate Nick for being named Best Player of the 2019 Belt and Road Colourful Yunnan International Football Tournament in China!

Additionally, Nick has joined FC Schalke’s first-team squad for their winter training camp in southern Spain as they gear up for the second half of the season. Nick has been at  Schalke  since turning 18 in February 2017. Initially part of the club’s U19 side, he scored four goals in 30 outings in the U19 Bundesliga West before being promoted to the U23s at the start of the 2018/19 campaign.
