Dear Saint Rose Families,

Please consider attending Monday's presentation by Dr. Burrow. The topic, "Parenting in a Social Media World" will benefit all of our parents, no matter the age of their children. Social media, for better or for worse, pushes itself into our lives.  The challenges for parents are ever changing and never ending.  Many parents have expressed that they are overwhelmed by how to properly manage technology and social media influences in their homes.  I believe that this presentation should benefit us all. Please see image below for more information.

Sincerely,
Bryon Borgelt

Sixth Grade Retreat

The Saint Rose Catholic School sixth graders recently went on a retreat to learn more about global inequality and how their faith calls them to take action.  Students spent part of the day on campus and the other part at Toledo Grows where they learned about the nonprofit and what it does to help address food inequality in Toledo.  Students volunteered at Toledo Grows in the gardens and in the kitchen.

Guidance Lesson Recap:
This month's lesson provided a way for students to learn about the lifeskill of responsibility. We discussed how important this lifeskill is in everyone's lives.

Grade K: We read the book Sloppy Joe by Dave Brunkus. The story focused on a little boy who struggles with being responsible with his daily chores, such as keeping things clean and taking care of pets. As a class, we talked about ways to be responsible at school and at home. From following directions the first time to cleaning up their work space, the students discussed many ways we can responsible in our daily life.

Grades 1/2: We read the book The Berenstain Bears and the Messy Room by by Sarah Berenstain. The story focused on the siblings and how much they struggled with keeping their room clean and being responsible in doing their chores. As a class, we discussed the many ways the bears did not show responsibility during that time and a few ways they could improve. We also discussed how we can incorporate responsibility in their lives.

Grade 3/4: We read the book Down the Road by Alice Schertle as a class. The story was about a little girl who was needed to take responsibility and get some eggs at a local store. During the time, she got distracted and the eggs broke. As a class, we talked about how distractions can get in the way of our responsibilities in life and we have to be mindful of our choices.

Grades 5: Students participated in a lesson that focused on responsibility at home and at school. We discussed how keeping things organized was one way to do that. Students completed an activity in which they needed to sort important school supplies and then had a discussion. Students then discussed the importance of responsibility in many aspects of their lives.

Grades 6-8: As a class, we talked about many ways students can be responsible at school and at home. From chores at home to helping a friend in need, we discussed many ways students can responsible. As a class, we also talked about recognizing signs of depression and how to help a friend in need.

THE NED SHOW
The students loved the program and the wonderful message of Never Giving Up, Encouraging Others, and Doing your Best! (NED). The program also focused on growth mindset in how important it is to focus on growth rather than perfection in our daily lives. Thank you to Mrs. Cleveland, Mrs. Schoen, Mrs. Shroyer, and Mrs. Turner for all of their help during the yoyo sale! It was a HUGE success and we couldn't have had this program without you. Thanks a million!!!!!!

Saint Rose School theme for the year:

Love Life!

As the Catholic Church celebrates Respect Life Sunday on October 7, Saint Rose School begins our monthly program of awareness of various issues related to respecting and loving the life that God had given to all of us.

October's theme is an awareness of
Loving Those with Disabilities

This is also National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
Students will experience an activity or lesson highlighting the gifts of individuals with Disabilities.

Collections at school Mass will be donated to the Diocese of Toledo Office for Persons with Disabilities for their programming. Thank you for your generosity.

Saint Rose School Family Service Events

Saint Rose School will organize four Family Service Events during the year to encourage families to serve and volunteer together.   Let us teach our children to put their faith into action by serving God, His People, and His Creation.

The first event is Sunday, October 21 at Sunshine Community at 7223 Maumee Western Rd, Maumee, OH 43537, from 1:30-4:30 pm.   Sunshine Community serves individuals with developmental disabilities.  Their clients range in age from 1 year old into the 80s.

Sunshine is hosting a Spooky Boardwalk trick-or-treat event on Sunday, October 21. Saint Rose School will host a station(s) to distribute candy. (It's not a scary event!).  This is appropriate for all ages. Depending on the response, we can host multiple stations. Families will enjoy creating a simple theme for the station, if desired. Costumes are welcome!  Set-up is 1:30-2:30 pm, and the trick-or-treating is from 2:30-4:30 pm. This is an outdoor event, but there is a back-up plan if there is inclement weather.  Please contact Mrs. Anne Brahier if you have questions ( [email protected]).
