Hi All,
Is it too soon to think about JANUARY? We hope not! Region 3's Organizing Committee has pledged to put on
a FREE professional development opportunity for our members on
Saturday, January 26, 2019
at the WR3 office.
Mark your calendars and plan to attend!
What's on the menu? We already have presenters for "Managing Student Behaviors," geared specifically for our ESP members, and for sessions about "Mindfulness," both FOR our members and for our students, and for a "Degrees Not Debt" workshop. We've also got some union-centered presentations on building rep training and "Beating Back the Bully Principal.
But we're only in the planning stages right now. We are hoping to partner with our neighbors at Green Bay Education Association.
And we're looking for ideas from YOU - what topics would you like to learn about and, what topics would YOU like to share with others as a presenter?

All too often we hear, "there's no reason to hold a meeting if there's nothing to report/decide/vote on." Or, we hear, "I'm not sure we have a union because there are never any meetings." But mostly, we hear, "I don't have TIME to go to ANOTHER meeting."
You have an opportunity to keep members in the loop AND respect their time by holding 10-minute meetings! It's also a great time to get feedback from people in the building.

Voting in the Mid-Term Elections November 6, 2018
We are offering two kinds of information here: HOW to vote and WHO to vote for.
HOW to VOTE
Here is a handout that details voter registration, polling places, absentee voting, voter ID, etc.
Early voting in person at your municipal clerk's office can begin as early as October 15 in some places, but for sure it is available everywhere
Monday, October 22 - Friday, November 2. Early in-person voting and
requesting an absentee ballot are excellent choices for busy educators. The polls are open from 7 am until 8 pm, which seems like a long time - but you KNOW how busy you are, you KNOW there will be a thousand distractions trying to keep you from voting. Consider early voting and absentee voting! Above all, MAKE A PLAN to vote!
WHO to Vote FOR
DOs and DON'Ts
- DO encourage all educational employees, whether members or not, to VOTE on November 6. Provide information about early voting.
- DO contact WEAC Region 3 if you're interested in helping get out the vote. We can provide materials and guidance.
- DON'T talk about partisan politics (WHO to vote for) on school grounds, or using school equipment or email. You can tell people how to find out that information.
- DON'T hand out partisan election materials on school grounds.

Pulaski EA Receives Region 3 Public Relations Grant Monies
The Pulaski Education Association was awarded funding from Region 3 PR Grant monies.
Pulaski EA President Jackie Baumann had this to say about how the grant monies were used to reach out to the community:
"Each year Pulaski EA members & potential members write letters of congratulations and encouragement to their graduates.They decided several years ago that they wanted to offer congrats, but more importantly, wanted to have the grads & their families understand that graduation is more than a high school event, it's a culmination of 4K-12 education.The grads love the notes, most are written by their own past teacher, and the parents are equally touched by the personalized note of encouragement. All students receive at least one card. This year they wrote almost 320 cards to 260 graduates."

Evers Congratulates Wisconsin's 2018 Blue Ribbon Schools
State Superintendent Tony Evers Monday congratulated eight Wisconsin elementary schools that received National Blue Ribbon School honors from the U.S. Department of Education.
Two are a part of Region 3: Gibraltar Elementary School, Fish Creek, Gibraltar Area School District; and Parkview Elementary School, New London School District. Other schools receiving honors are: Bannach Elementary School, Stevens Point Area Public School District; College Park Elementary School, Greendale School District; Flynn Elementary School, Eau Claire Area School District; Iron River Elementary School, Iron River, Maple School District; Prairie View Elementary School, De Soto Area
; and Roosevelt Elementary School, Kenosha School District.

WEAC and UW Athletics are teaming up to celebrate the dedication of Wisconsin Public School educators. Nominate yourself or a deserving Wisconsin Public School educator to be recognized for an Outstanding Educator Award. In appreciation for their dedication to students, winners will be treated to a VIP Experience at a Badger home game.
