It's Time for OLLI's Trivia Night Fundraiser!

August 23 will be here before you know it, so be sure to save the date AND register for OLLI's Fifth Annual Trivia Night Fundraiser!

Our theme for the evening's dress and table decorations is A Night at the Movies.  You don't need to be a cinema expert to answer the questions - only a handful of them will focus on movies and entertainment.

For just $45 per person ($360 for a table of 8), the evening will include plentiful hors d'oeuvres, coffee, tea, water, and cash bar; eight rounds of trivia fun; prizes for first and last teams, best-decorated table and best-dressed team; interactive competitions during breaks; and outstanding customer service.

If you don't have a team, no worries!  We'll place you on one, and you'll have a great night of fun while we raise money for our shuttle savings fund, student volunteer awards, audio-visual purchases, and more!

Online registration is easy -  click here to sign up !  Thank you in advance for supporting OLLI on this fun and relaxing evening.

OLLI Learns Provides 'You'll Love' Connections

You've seen the "You'll Love" boxes in our seasonal brochures, which are designed to help you find a class, study group, trip, or special event that relates to another program within the brochure.

Now, our very own OLLI Learns  website is doing the same thing.  On this site, you'll find recommendations for books, videos, and podcasts that are connected to one of our programs.

For instance, one of the newer book recommendations, Last Call:  The Rise and Fall of Prohibition, was the inspiration for a Spring 2019 study group titled "Bottoms Up!"

If you have loved one of your classes or other events, and have found additional readings, videos, or podcasts to continue your learning journey, please share them with us on the OLLI Learns  website.

Thank you for contributing and making OLLI Learns one of the most unique member-driven websites in the Osher network!

OLLI Insider:
Your Questions Answered

Dear OLLI Insider,
I will be staying with my son and grandchildren in the summer, who live in a different state. I've heard there is another OLLI not too far from where I will be staying.  Can I participate with their program while I am there?

Signed,
Summer Sally

Dea r Summer Sally,

Thank you so much for your interest in OLLI and  kudos to you for wanting to search out an another OLLI program.  Wh ile not every city or town has an OLLI, there are 123 programs serving 365 U.S. towns and cities, because many Institutes run satellite locations in nearby communities!

Regarding your question, Osher Institutes are all independent programs affiliated with their host college or university.  They are not connected through a unified membership structure nor governed by a single entity.  Therefore, each OLLI has their own program structure. Check with the Osher Institute in your son's area, as all OLLIs offer different pricing and semester models.  Perhaps they have an option that would work during your extended visit.

Happy learning and w e hope to see you at our OLLI program soon!

Sincerely,
OLLI Insider

A Man and His Machines Featured in Bradley Magazine

How can the construction industry revolutionize its practices? Steve Pierz MBA '94 is developing a machine that could alleviate housing issues thousands of bricks at a time.

As chief innovation officer for Fastbrick Robotics (FBR) based in Perth, Australia, he's fine-tuning Hadrian X, a robot that automates much of the construction process which could revolutionize the industry.

Pierz believes the robot will free skilled workers to do what they do best. Instead of masons doing hard labor on basic construction, they will be free to add their flair to decorative work. As fewer people are entering construction-related trades, robots can make up for the labor shortage while freeing those in the field for more rewarding jobs.
