Earlier today, the Learning Policy Institute (LPI) hosted  "Bridging the Divide: School Integration Designs, " where they released two new reports on school integration:

"Understanding the Federal Role in Protecting Student Civil Rights: A Focus on School Diversity"  profiles successful integration models across the country, and examine s the importance of the federal role in protecting the civil rights of students.  

A second report, "Sharing the Wealth: How Regional Finance and Desegregation Plans Can Enhance Educational Equity," explores how interdistrict desegregation programs in Boston, MA; Hartford, CT; and Omaha, NE have been designed, financed, and implemented.

New EdBuild Report

New York City's School Diversity Advisory Group  (SDAG) released a report  with a bold vision for integration and equity in New York schools. SDAG is co mprised of 40+ government stakeholders, local and national experts on school diversity, parents, teachers, advocates, students, and community leaders, including New York Appleseed and IntegrateNYC. 

The recommendations are presented using IntegrateNYC's 5Rs of Real Integration framework.

Researchers, coders, policymakers, parents, and students will come together to use real admissions data to make IntegrateNYC's students' vision for a transformed enrollment process a reality.  INYC students hope to further develop their prototype into a fully-functioning equity-based choice algorithm to serve all 300,000 NYC public high school students.

May 2019 marks the 65th anniversary of the landmark  Brown v. Board of Education  decision. To commemorate this milestone, the  Center for Education and Civil Rights (CECR)  and the  Africana Research Center (ARC)  are convening a national symposium of education, law, and policy scholars and practitioners at the Pennsylvania State University. Speakers will discuss Brown's promise of racial integration amidst major contemporary threats to civil rights in education. 

We will explore these issues in panels on:

  • The Role of the State Today
  • Growing Critically Conscious Teachers
