U.S. House Passes Increased Funding for Arts & Culture
The appropriations bill passed yesterday by the U.S. House of Representatives included increased funding for the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities, the Institute of Museum & Library Services, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. All members of the Orange County Congressional delegation voted for the bill, which now moves on to the Senate which is expected to act upon it after the July 4 recess.
Sculptures in Newport Beach Civic Center Park Now Open
Phase IV of the
Sculpture Exhibition in Civic Center Park opened to the public last weekend. Ten new works have been added to the Phase III exhibition (7 of which remain on display through September). A Phase V has been included in the City of Newport Beach budget for 2019-20, with an anticipated opening of early 2020.

Student Artist's Work Displayed at U.S. Capitol
Angelica Espindola, entering her senior year at Orange High School, was the winner of the 46th District's Congressional Art Competition for 2019, and her drawing of famed artist Frida Kahlo is now displayed in the U.S. Capitol where it will be seen by thousands of visitors during the coming year. Angelica attended the opening on Monday, along with her art teacher
Debbyie Jollineau. The 46th District is represented by Congressman Lou Correa of Santa Ana. It was one of five local Congressional districts (39th, 45th, 46th, 48th, 49th) assisted on the art competition by Arts Orange County. The winning artwork in each district is now on display in Washington, D.C.
Arts Orange County Awarded Grant as State-Local Partner
This week, the California Arts Council (CAC) approved a grant of $55,000 to Arts Orange County under the State-Local Partner Program. For many years, the CAC has endeavored to partner with one local arts agency serving each of the state's 58 counties (all except for 4 are presently partnered). Each must be designated the State-Local Partner local arts agency by its County, and ArtsOC is designated annually by a resolution of the Orange County Board of Supervisors. The grant helps support free programs and services offered by Arts Orange County, like SparkOC and the Imagination Celebration.
