2019 Inspiration Fund Application Now Open

This year, the BIA increased the matching fund to $20,000, matching volunteer hours and/or funding, for community members to implement projects and programs offering a positive impact in the Pioneer Square neighborhood. Project goals include celebrating neighborhood diversity, benefiting the community, and neighborhood storytelling. The BIA encourages applicants to propose their best and most creative ideas. Potential projects might include work around murals, art, alleys, public area improvements, cleanup, experiences, or events. Think big! Think outside the box! Applications are due July 8th, 2019 at midnight.

Meet the Makers Campaign Launch
|

The Alliance for Pioneer Square and Pioneer Square Business Improvement Area recently embarked on a marketing campaign entitled "Meet the Makers."
Meet the Makers
is intended to highlight the unique food, drink, retail, art, attractions, and everything else which makes Pioneer Square a vanguard neighborhood in Seattle.
We believe if our neighborhood could talk, it would tell intriguing stories. We are using visual storytelling to develop a deeper connection to our audiences. We believe storytelling is a fundamental human experience that unites people and drives stronger, deeper connections. In our fragmented media world, storytelling will allow us to engage with our audiences a new perspective on Pioneer Square. Accordingly, we are producing six videos which will highlight Pioneer Square's one-of-a-kind offerings.
Our
first video
underscores one of the many rich aspects of the history of Pioneer Square- our vibrant and visionary art scene. The video features Phen Huang, Director of Foster/White Gallery and Ten Hundred (Peter Robinson), Owner of Statix. The video posits to viewers: whether you seek an art experience that is colorful and bright, or quiet and contemplative- you will find it in Pioneer Square.

A warm welcome to our newest businesses and attractions in the neighborhood!
- Pacifica: 322 Occidental Ave. S.– a cozy tavern from the London Plane family, featuring Latin American beer, cocktails, and small bites such as tamales and chorizo sandwiches.
- Armoire: 505 1st Ave. S. – this high-tech clothing rental start up recently relocated their headquarters, which serves as a hybrid retail space, warehouse, and office.
- Matsu: 501 Stadium Pl. S. – the operators of Girin re-opened their space under a new concept in mid-June, adding sushi and seafood to the menu in addition to steaks.
We bid farewell to these neighbors this month!
- Flury & Company Ltd: 322 1st Ave S.- this art gallery specializing in Edward Curtis' photographic works and antique American Indian art has retired from their Pioneer Square location.
- MadeHere: 115 S. Jackson- this local-focused retail store vacated their former space to make way for a long-planned redevelopment of their building, and is seeking to relocate in the future.

Mark Your Calendars: First Thursday Art Walk

July 11, 5-10 PM
Every First Thursday*** of the month (except this month!), Pioneer Square welcomes you to join us in the venerated tradition of Art Walk with exceptional artists, innovative works, and creative kinship.
During Art Walk, parking is FREE from 5-10 PM! Make sure to grab your voucher from a participating gallery or studio to park for free at one of three neighborhood garages.
***July's First Thursday will take place on July 11 due to the July 4 holiday.

Artist Feature: Cristina Martinez

Cristina Martinez
, who operates in the Good Arts building
'57 Biscayne
space, creates tender, emotional imagery through a multitude of mediums. Upon starting a fashion degree which she left unfinished, Cristina Martinez felt less connected to trends and mass production and was instead drawn to the illustrative side of the industry. She began painting things that she loves and admires, drawing much of her inspiration from the power and beauty of women. After having only shown her work for about two years, art enthusiasts near and far are hungry for art such as Cristina's. Looking ahead, Cristina hopes to incorporate her passion for painting with her knack for sewing for a new
June & Mars experience. Expect more wearable art and collaborations with her kids from this artist in the future.

Q2 Clean Walk Report
In late June, Neighborhood Property Managers, Alliance for Pioneer Square staff, along with representatives from Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) Solid Waste and the Metropolitan Improvement District (MID) walked the neighborhood as part of our Clean Walk pilot program.
The next Clean Walk takes place
in September,
starting at the offices of the Alliance for Pioneer Square (105 S. Main St.) and will continue on to S.
Washington Street from Alaskan Way to Fourth Ave.

Changes at Coleman Dock
Washington State Ferries' Colman Dock Project has a number of changes on the horizon, including modifications to how pedestrians enter and exit the terminal.
Later this summer, Washington State Ferries will
move into a new terminal
and open a
passenger-only ferry facility
. Additionally, a new
temporary sailing schedule
will be implemented between July 13-15. Attend a drop-in outreach session this month to stay informed. Sessions will be held at the Seattle Ferry terminal Information Booth on July 9, July 17, and July 25 from 1:15PM to 6:30PM.

Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program
WSDOT continues to remove the Alaskan Way Viaduct from Seattle's waterfront to make way for the City of Seattle's
Waterfront Seattle Program
.
The Alaskan Way Viaduct demolition is on the edge of Pioneer Square this summer. Demolition has already begun at the South end of the Alaskan Way Viaduct. View WSOT's

Areaways Program
|
SDOT recently implemented a strict vehicle weight limitation and increased commercial vehicle enforcement. An assessment of current load zone placements will occur in response to a structural analysis of the underground areaways in Pioneer Square.
Throughout 2019-2020, SDOT will install a monitoring system and conduct a complete assessment of the areaways to determine a long-term plan of action to repair necessary areas. In the meantime, our goal is to provide adjacent businesses and residents with accurate and timely information as we move forward to improve safety.

Proposed New Cruise Terminal Information Session Follow-Up
The Port of Seattle Commission recently approved $348 million to invest in the future of the Seattle’s working waterfront. A key investment is a proposed cruise terminal at Terminal 46 (King Street and Alaskan Way).
In May, the Port of Seattle hosted an information session regarding the proposed terminal.
