Transitioning to our new premium rate-setting model

Our new premium rate-setting model is almost here. To help businesses smoothly transition, any rate decreases will be applied immediately, while any initial rate increases will be phased in over three years.

Our website now features videos that explain how businesses projected to receive rate increases will move into our new model. We walk through specific examples for businesses that were in an experience rating program previously and those that were not.
New early assessment and integrated health care

Our new Occupational Health Assessment Program (OHAP) provides assessment and case consult services for people with workplace injuries and illnesses. The new assessment program consolidates four existing services into one program and builds on our existing partnerships with public hospitals across Ontario. It supports better communication and coordination between health care providers, to get people the right treatment at the right time.

Look for more information about the new program in the health care programs section of our website in early July.
Are Ontario’s workplaces getting safer?

The Health and Safety Index measures the overall health and safety of Ontario’s workplaces. The index looks at prevention, empowerment, workplace culture, enforcement and injuries. This data is combined into a single, evidence-based measurement. So, how are Ontario’s workplaces measuring up?

Take a closer look at the index to find out, and discover trends and insights that can improve health and safety within your industry at www.healthandsafetyindex.ca.
Adventures of model employees...after the injury!

With the end of school comes the excitement of brand-new summer jobs for students across Ontario. And as they prepare to put on their uniform and punch-in for work, we’re hoping to give them the confidence to #PracticeSafeWork!

Last summer we introduced you to our model employees and their workplace injuries in our #PracticeSafeWork video campaign. This year, we pick up where we left off—and we’re bringing along mom and dad!

If you have a kid entering the workforce this summer, visit www.practicesafework.ca for great tips, safety conversation starters and to watch all of the new videos.
An OPP officer’s road to recovery

When Pete Tucker set out on his OPP motorcycle on June 26, 2014, he had no idea the ride would change his life forever. He collided with a Canada goose, causing a crash that left him fighting for his life and eventually led to the amputation of his left leg. Check out Pete’s testimonial video to learn more about his remarkable story, recovery and return-to-work journey with us
Free prevention guideline for common soft tissue injuries

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) are one of the leading causes of disability and discomfort in Ontario’s workforce.

The Centre of Research Expertise for the Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders (CRE-MSD) has developed the MSD prevention guideline for Ontario. Through practical tips and examples, the guideline helps businesses and employees understand and prevent MSD.
By the Numbers is back!

In 2018, the leading cause of injury was sprains and strains and these injuries made up 47 per cent of allowed lost-time claims in Ontario.

Get health and safety facts and data insights like these and more in our By the Numbers: 2018 Statistical Report, available now.

You can also use the Report Builder to customize reports to your areas of interest.
