What benefits do you see in being active in a professional association such as GSHP?
GSHP provides wonderful professional networking opportunities. The state meetings and educational programming are exceptional and truly an economic bargain!
What initially motivated you to get involved in GSHP?
My involvement with GSHP started as a pharmacy student, and I quickly renewed my membership in GSHP upon returning to Georgia after completing residency training and practicing a few years in Florida.
Where did you go to pharmacy school?
University of Georgia College of Pharmacy
Where have you trained or worked?
I completed PGY1 Pharmacy and PGY2 Drug Information residency training at UF Health/Shands Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida. After residency, I remained with UF Health/Shands Jacksonville as a Drug Information Specialist until accepting the Director of Drug Information position at South University School of Pharmacy in Savannah, Georgia in 2004.
Describe your current area of practice and practice setting:
I oversee the operations of the campus-based South University Drug Information Center in Savannah, Georgia. Our center provides complementary drug information consults to healthcare professionals and consumers. Additionally, I participate in committee activities along with our PGY2 Drug Information resident at St. Joseph's/Candler and Memorial University Medical Center.
What advice would you give to student pharmacists?
Laugh a lot and have fun every day!
What pharmacy related issues keep you up at night?
I believe we should prioritize healthy lifestyles and preventative strategies more in the United States, as America leads the world in health-care dollars spent and yet has the highest rates of disease.
Do you have any special interests or hobbies outside of work?
I enjoy going to the beach, swimming at the pool, taking walks, riding bikes, and playing golf with family and friends. College sports are always a pastime around our house including UGA football! We also have a farm where we grow blueberries; harvest season is quickly approaching in June.
What is your favorite place to vacation?
I look forward to our family beach vacation each year in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.

Clinical Writing Opportunities
Writing a clinical article for the GSHP newsletter is a great way for students to get publication experience. Topics can be anything related to hospital-system pharmacy. Examples include (but are not limited to): new drug updates, national policy updates for hospital pharmacy, guideline updates, therapeutics reviews, and clinical controversies. Articles are generally 1-3 pages in length, and can include tables and figures. Interested members and students should email Steve Glass (sglass@gshp.org) for more details.
