Letter from the President

Greetings from Regina on a beautiful and sunny summer day!  First, I would like to say that I am honoured that you have entrusted me with the job of President of SLA for the upcoming year.  I am looking forward to working with my fellow board members to serve you in the best way we can.

The board held its annual changeover meeting at Manitou Springs.  We said goodbye to a large number of

outgoing Board members.  I would like to thank them for all their hard work and dedication to the Association and to you, the members.
I would also like to welcome the new Board members and to say welcome back to the two board members who are continuing on with us throughout the rest of their term. The coming year will be filled with a lot of exciting work moving forward with the new strategic plan. We hope that you will consider joining the SLA in this work by joining one of the many committees that make SLA the Association that it is.

Multitype Library Board: Expression of Interest for SLA Representative

SLA is seeking a member who is interested in being a representative on the Multitype Library Board! Membership on this board is an excellent way to work with your colleagues from across library sectors, as the Board has representatives from public, school, post-secondary, special libraries and other information providers. There are typically three meetings per year. If you have any questions please contact Dorothea at slaexdir@sasktel.net.

SLA Socials

The SLA Summer Social has been set for August 21, 2019 - if you are willing to host please contact Dorothea at slaexdir@sasktel.net with a proposed venue.

SLA members host three socials throughout the year: Summer Social in August, Happy Hour in November and Winter Social in February.

The socials can be held at any location across the province where an SLA member volunteers to secure a location and host the event. The SLA office will assist in publicizing through newsletters news flashes etc. SLA contributes funds to the Happy Hour in November only.

These events are opportunities to meet people, network and socialize.

Everyone, Including Culture, Wins When You Buy Lottery Tickets

The core funding that SLA receives through SaskCulture is part of the Lottery Trust where a percentage of every lottery ticket sold goes to support sport, culture and recreation groups within Saskatchewan. It appears that recent lottery sales are not meeting expectations, which will not have an immediate effect on SLA. However we encourage you to remind audiences and arts council members that buying lottery tickets benefits the entire community.  Saskatchewan Lotteries has also launched an app that you can download  in the App Store or Google Play. More information is available on the Saskatchewan Lotteries website.
