Monthly Counseling Newsletter
Dear Parents,

It's hard to believe we are already in October!  It's been a great start to the 2018-2019 school year.  We hope you find the October edition of our Counseling Newsletter, Life in the Middle - October Newsletter , helpful.

Please let us know if we can help in any way.

Activity Day Donation Request
Last year, we introduced a fun way to spend some of our Friday Dragon Dens. We call it Activity Day, and students will have an opportunity to select from a wide range of activities in which to participate. We plan to have three rotations throughout the year - three different activities in which students will participate on at least 4 Fridays each.

Activity options range from board games, card games, Frisbee Golf, crafts and coloring, to four-square, Yahtzee, Farkle, and Left, Right, Center.

Parents last year made donations of games and gift cards to help us provide the supplies for Activity Day. With our growing student population and the addition of more activity options, we are seeking donations again.

If you can help, please click on this link to a Sign-Up Genius to see our needs and sign up to help!

Thanks so much and thanks to all who have already committed to purchase items.

The Office
Drop-Off/Pick-Up Procedures:
Please read the short reminder below about carpool drop-off and pick-up procedures to prevent slowed down and backed up lines.

In the mornings:
Please pull forward PAST the front door to the orange cone down the sidewalk before stopping to let your child out.  There is an awning all the way down the sidewalk, so even if it's raining, students won't get wet.  When parents stop right in front of the door, it backs up the car line and the process goes MUCH slower.  If your child is injured or is on crutches, you may certainly stop in front of the entrance.  Otherwise, PLEASE pull forward to the cone (or to the car in front of you).

In the afternoons:
Please follow the same procedure for the afternoon...except that we ask you to pull ALL THE WAY forward to the very end of the sidewalk (or to the car in front of you).  The more cars we get pulled up along the walkway, the FASTER the process goes.

Also, to clarify some information about the need for parents to turn "right" out of the CMS parking lot during afternoon carpool.

Officer Roberson is out at the entrance/exit in the afternoons and she directs cars to turn right out of the parking lot.  On days when she is not out there due to her schedule, it seems that some parents are turning left, causing some near misses and lots of back-up in the parking lot line.  When parents have to wait to turn left due to street traffic, etc., this backs up the "exit" line of cars in the parking lot.  We ask that you follow the same procedure (right turn only) even on days when Officer Roberson is not able to be out there.

Once you turn right out of the lot, there are places to make a lawful U-turn or you can turn right onto Highland and that will intersect Kimball.  I understand it is a few blocks out of the way if you live east of CMS, but please remember that we are trying to safely dismiss several hundred students.  The less back-up and waiting we have, the smoother and faster the process.  When people fail to follow the proper procedures the carpool process takes longer.

Please trust me when I tell you that the staff members on carpool duty are just as anxious as parents for the process to move smoothly....whether it's raining, 100 degrees, or freezing cold, we are out there monitoring students and drivers.  If each and every driver would adhere to the carpool guidelines, it would be smooth sailing (or driving!).

We would greatly appreciate your help and cooperation.  We all have the same goal....a SAFE and speedy carpool process.  Please help up by doing your part to make that happen.  Thank you so much!

Principal Stephanie Mangels

Candy
candy_bucket.jpg If you have candy laying around your house that you want to donate, please do.  Officer Roberson is known to hand out candy between classes to students.

Thank you,
Officer Roberson
