Dear Church Family,
Each year we share in the celebration of the freedom that is ours due to the courage of the leaders that drafted and signed the Declaration of Independence. The pilgrims risked everything including their lives to escape persecution as Christians. We as present day Christians still enjoy the freedom of worship due to the willingness of so many to put their lives on the line.
In Galatians 5:1 Paul writes, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (NIV) Paul is stating clearly that Jesus came to set us free from the yoke of slavery, the yoke of bondage due to sin and separation from God.
This freedom that we receive in Jesus is more than simple salvation. Jesus sets us free to all that God has created us to be. Set free to love others and to be loved; loved in spite of our imperfections.
There is another truth in Paul’s letter, the statement to stand firm. We are set free in our soul and spirit from the power of sin and the power of this world to control our lives. The way to then overcome this control begins with standing firm.
This is the time that we must stand firm. Standing firm in these days of God’s spirit calling us to go into the world with the message of freedom in Jesus. Standing firm in faith as all the details are worked out for the new building. Standing firm as the Holy Spirit guides our congregation in ministry in our community.
As we stand firm in our faith we must remember that a life of faith is one of action. Our action will require our total trust in God for God leads us to accomplish extraordinary acts of love. Are you standing firm in your faith? Is God calling you to take a step of faith which may not make any sense or defies worldly logic? Stand firm in your faith and take the step that will lead you into the very presence of God.
Experience the incredible freedom found only in a life of faith in God through trusting God in every part of your life. Be blessed as you freely discover a life filled with joy through Jesus.
