"There is No Power for Change Greater than a Community Discovering What It Cares About."
– Margaret J. Wheatley
Dynamic dialogue is sparking unlikely, cross-sector partnerships throughout Georgia as we continue our Community Conversation series in rural and urban communities. In Gwinnett County on Wednesday, June 26, over 30 community partners gathered to voice their concerns about the conditions of teens and families in their neighborhoods. Diversity and inclusion became the topic of discussion as the group brainstormed ways to increase access to medically accurate health information. Families are facing technological, cultural, and language barriers across the state. When community leaders collaborate to identify these gaps to create solutions, the entire community wins.

GCAPP’s Community Conversation series provides individuals who are invested in the well-being of young people an opportunity to take a detailed look at what’s needed to improve their circumstances. To bring a Community Conversation to your county or for more information, contact Rhonda Simpson at 404-475-6027 or   Rhonda@gcapp.org .

Be the Change You Want to See in the World
GCAPP’s Communication & Development Intern, Senquaesha Parks, is a recent Georgia State University graduate and a hometown success. She is one of the new faces featured in just released commercials for Student Success Alliance (SSA) of Walton County, formerly Communities in Schools. SSA provides basic needs, life skills, and moral support to youth for a healthier future.

“It is truly an honor to be featured as a Walton County success, nevertheless this is just a beginning!” says Parks. She describes working at GCAPP as a full circle experience as she helps young people find some of the same important services and resources she needed and used growing up. Parks is an active volunteer in her hometown of Monroe. She volunteers with the FISH4Kids Summer Feeding Program. She packages and delivers lunches to numerous neighborhood children who may otherwise go without. At GCAPP, she is working across departments to plan “Wake Up Walton” a community breakfast brainstorm to share GCAPP’s work and resources with the community that has given her so much and prepared her a healthy adulthood.
