Happy International Women's Day!
Today , and every day, we celebrate the accomplishments and achievements made by women. We pay special tribute to the women in our industry by shining a light on Los Angeles County's
WINTER
Program - Women In Non Traditional Employment Roles. Their mission is to train, educate and prepare women for careers in construction and building. WINTER replicates real work experience, where participants get an understanding of Blue Print reading, hand tools and heavy machinery. At the end of the curriculum the program graduates develop the skills needed for building and construction tradework. Happy International Women's Day!

CITY OF THOUSAND OAKS PROPOSES NEW TRAFFIC MITIGATION PLAN
Our Ventura Working Group hosted Transportation Planner Kathy Naoum from the City of Thousand Oaks, to discuss their Proposed Traffic Mitigation Impact Fees. The study concludes that commercial projects will cause the most impact due to future intensified development on the Boulevard, so residential impact fees have been lowered in the new proposal! Our group applauded the City for not adding additional burden to sorely-needed housing development. Click

LA CITY PLANNING COMMISSION ADOPTS NEW CEQA THRESHOLDS
State guidelines require all cities to update their transportation impact analysis metrics to vehicle miles traveled (VMT). However, the City wants to make this change before the state-mandated year 2020. We are concerned that changing the assessment to VMT would negatively impact housing projects in many areas of the City, to the point that those potential projects will no longer be affordable to the existing market. Requiring VMT in lieu of the traditional Level of Service (LOS) model will also open projects up to significantly more CEQA legal challenges. CPC adopted the change; it now goes to the Council’s PLUM Committee. View BIA-LAV's letter,
