Dear BFCCPS Community,

As a reminder, we will hold our second Parent Pillar Night this Thursday night November 7th at 7pm in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Parents will learn how to recognize signs of depression and other mental health problems, initiate a conversation with their child, and get him or her help. We hope you can join us for this important parent education event. To help us gauge participation for the event,  kindly RSVP using this form.

For those of you that are new to BFCCPS, we are excited that French Week is just around the corner; returning families will tell you that there's really nothing quite like French week, it's an incredibly special part of our school's culture. We encourage you to read about all the events of the week in this document. To kick off the festivities, all students will have a chance to shop in the French Market on Tuesday, November 12th. A variety of French inspired merchandise will be offered including light up Eiffel Towers, and berets and more. In years past students have also enjoyed popular items such as hand knit hats and headbands and smencils. All students in Kindergarten through Grade Eight will visit the market and have a chance to shop; we hope you'll consider sending along some money for your child to select some goodies. All proceeds will benefit the Grade 7 trip to Quebec this spring.

Throughout the week students will participate in French Trivia, attend a French Arts Enrichment Assembly, a French Lunch and show will be held for students in Grades Six through Eight, the annual French Game and the Fifth and Sixth Grade French Fair.

Looking forward to a great rest of the week,

Mr Perna

Important Reminders:

With the holidays approaching, we have been notified of several families of upcoming planned absences. As a reminder, as a public charter school we have accountability with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regarding our attendance, enrollment, lottery and wait list procedures. As such, we are required to closely monitor student attendance as well as significant absences from school. This information is communicated to parents in the BFCCPS Handbook as follows:

Absences that exceed 5 school days, and are NOT due to illness, will need approval from school administration prior to the absence. Please fill out the Extended Absence Request Form (you can obtain one by emailing Mrs. Tappin ). Completed forms should be returned to the student’s homeroom teacher. A separate form must be filled out for each student in the family. Our extended absence  policy  limits the number of consecutive days missed to 10 days. Absences beyond this consecutive 10 days will result in automatic un-enrollment.

In an effort to reduce the spread of illnesses and provide time for students to return to a healthy learning environment, please follow the guidelines for keeping a sick child home from school.

1. The child should be fever-free for 24 hours without the aid of a fever reducing medication, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Any temperature 100.0 degrees F or greater is considered a fever.

2. The child should be free of vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school. A child who has been ill during the night may feel slightly better in the morning and even ask to go to school. However, the child will likely experience symptoms of illness later, will be tired from loss of sleep, and will still be contagious to other children.

3. The child diagnosed with strep throat/scarlet fever should remain home for the first 24 hours of antibiotic treatment. A child remains contagious until he/she has been on antibiotics for 24 hours.

4. The child diagnosed with bacterial conjunctivitis should remain home for the first 24 hours of treatment and until there is no more drainage from the eyes.

5. Consider keeping a child with thick or constant nasal discharge at home. Very few younger children can effectively blow their noses and wash their hands afterwards. A child with the above symptoms may quickly spread the illness to other children.

Please report student absences using School Dismissal Manager .

2020-2021 Enrollment Now Open

Enrollment applications for the 2020-2021 school year are now available. Once a student is accepted, they need not reapply as their spot is protected for as long as they attend the school. However, if a child has not been accepted and is on the waiting list, you will need to re-apply each year as the waiting list is not held from year to year. If you have a student on the waiting list, or a sibling at home who is age appropriate for Kindergarten next year, now is the time to apply. Parent Teacher Conferences

This year we will be using the conference scheduler PTCFast to schedule parent/teacher conferences. Please  visit this page  to schedule a conference.

Parent/Teacher conferences are an opportunity for parents and teachers to meet to discuss how students are doing academically, socially and emotionally in class. It is a great opportunity to meet your children’s teachers, and get an idea of how they are performing in school, and what they are working on. It is a great way to strengthen the partnership between parents and teachers.   This post on our website has more conference scheduling details if you need help. (Seventh Grade parents are working to organize babysitting during conferences on Monday and Tuesday. We will send an update once the babysitting signup is available.)

Capstone Corner:
Beginning in seventh grade, students develop, plan and initiate a self-designed, service-learning project. During their eighth grade year, students complete their project and present their work to a faculty panel and wider school community at the capstone assembly. Students receive guidance through this process as part of our advising program, however complete the project outside of school and requires parental help and support every step of the way. You can learn more about the Capstone Process here on our website.

We are incredibly proud of the variety and quality of the projects our students produce. Through capstone, our students illustrate that young men and women can make an impact on their school, community and world. Ongoing Capstone Announcements will be posted in Ben's Buzz, we hope you will review the student projects and select some to support as a family.

My name is Siddharth A and for my Capstone project, I'm trying to support the Allergy Community. I'm giving you access to read everything on this site to spread awareness about Allergies ! Feel free to read different articles, watch videos, and explore throughout the website. Spread the word about what you find!

11/4-11/8

My name is Giavanna M and I am in the eighth grade class. For my capstone project I am working with the Medfield Animal Shelter to raise money and awareness for abused animals. In order to do so, I am starting a raffle. The criteria for my raffle is a photo or two of your pet doing something silly or dressed in some comedic costume. Your child can bring in one photo for $3 or two for $5. The grades that can participate in my raffle are K-5. This will be occurring through the week of November 4-8 2019. We can not forget the prize for the winner! The winner will be selected by a vote and will receive a prize of many stress toys (such as putty, squishies, and other stress relieving toys). I hope many can participate in my raffle and I anticipate many humorous pets! Thank you!

Please join us for a 1 hour Musical Showcase featuring Grades 6-8 organized by Quinn H on Friday, November 8 from 7-8 pm in the Learning Commons as part of his Capstone Project. Students will be able to sign up two weeks in advance. We will have a maximum of 12-15 performers. This is not a fundraiser, just an event for the community.
